I´m mostly posting this because I want someone to explain to me what the hell RKelly thought he was doing. What was the purpose of that stupid ass performance? Did he even rehearse it? And if he did, why did he decide to "perform" it and make a complete retard out of himself?

Can anybody shed some light on this because it just seemed ludicrous when I watched it on TV and I seriously thought it was some kind of joke.

"Absurd" is the perfect word to describe some of the acts at the VMA lately. You would think MTV would have somebody employed in their orgainization that has some sense of quality control.

MTV and music video awards now make as much sense as Paris Hilton and teen chastity awards.

The internet killed the video star.

I'd love to know how many in the audience at the VMAs were all, like, "uh ... what? Who? Huh?" when Lou Reed and the Raconteurs played "White Light/White Heat."

That was pretty cool.

The entire show was bullshit and a complete disaster.

And what do you know?! It was directed by our friend Hamish Hamilton! :yuck:

In defense of Mssr. Hamilton, I cannot imagine a scenario where a different director would have made a lick of difference.

And really, I don't think you can watch the VMAs and expect anything other than "bullshit." It's MTV.

That's true. I was out looking for trainwrecks to begin with.
But I've never seen the directing so bad. People were on time for their cues but the cameras wouldn't switch to them, or the music would come far too early (or in the middle of a speech!).
I know it's not all of the director's fault, but micromanaging all of these factors is what makes a director.

That's the ONLY minute of the show I caught. My daughter TiVoed it. Is there any more Raconteurs?

Yeah, the Raconteurs are kind of the 'house band' for the evening, playing snippets of stuff after commercial breaks.

Pla - it helps if you 'watch' the show while futzing on the computer, your back turned to the TV. Then you miss all the sloppy edits!

I wasn't impressed with the show tonite. I also have been reminded how much I loathe rap music. Also, can these skinny rock chicks paint on their skirts ANY shorter?

I was reading magazines! But my friends managed to point out all of the jaw-drop moments.

I didn't miss much....thank god I only watched the Pre show to see if U2 won those tech awards....sad to say they didn't (But I do like Gnarls Barkley's video.)

it was painfull to watch
I decided to watch it because Jack Black, I really like the guy... he was ok, but the whole thing was a complete disaster

good thing: The Raconteurs
and of course, The Raconteurs featuring Lou Reed

when they were performing White Light/White Heat and I was singing a long I wonder... how many people in the overall Mtv audience know who was that amazing guitar player (Reed)

I think Pink was stoned or something? and I was glad when AFI won and they were more excited about Lou Reed than the award

anyway, I still don't get the rap/hip hop/r&b performances

I watched an hour of it and then I turned it off because it was so bad! People need to learn how to shut their mics off in the background! I could clearly hear people talking when one of the presenters were talking. :tsk:

Hamish should be forbidden from directing.

Um... anybody actually check out the video footage in the link?

Because that`s what I wanted to truly discuss. R Kelly´s last year performance of "in the closet". Such an idiot. :tsk:

Yeah, I saw it. He was acting out the three parts himself from one of the chapters from the song. I think him playing with his earring was when Chuck and Cathy were 'bout to start bitch slappin' each other!:yikes:

I think Pink was stoned, and the Jackass guys were either high or drunk.

What was that guy at the end who hopped up onstage during the award Jennifer Lopez was presenting? He was quickly escorted away but the camera caught it all.

Why oh why does MTV have to re-run the VMA's repeatedly after such a disasterous airing?

So my question is this................

Are the VMA shows aired from LA more entertaining and of better quality than the years the show is aired from NY?

Speaking of people under the influence while on stage...I think the All American Rejects'(whoever the hell they are) frontman was plastered already when he was accepting their award.

And to answer your final question...I don't know exactly which years the VMAs aired from LA, so I can't give an accurate answer to your question. I can, however, say with complete and utter certainty that the VMAs aired from Miami were, quite simply, the worst programming in the history of television. Did you see the VMAs aired from Miami? Am I not correct in this?

Ugh, VMAs in Miami. That was the first time I had watched the VMAs in roughly a decade. It was awful. I pretty much sat there going "What the fuck is this shit?!" for three hours.

MTV Video Music Awards

The MTV Video Music Awards were established in 1984 by MTV to celebrate the top music videos of the year. Originally beginning as an alternative to the Grammy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards is now a respected pop culture awards show in its own right.

The statues given to winners of the award are often called "Moon Men" because the statue is of an astronaut on the moon, one of the earliest representations of MTV.

The eligibility period for the Video Music Awards begins July 1. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV. Past broadcasts have been held in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at New York's Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, August 31.

That has to be the strangest mess of a song I've ever heard, and I don't automatically hate all pop/rap music either.

Melon

But it was kinda exciting to see Axl Rose again after 20 years....He's still messed up...
