What the hell is it with the British Police?

Massive Attack member 'questioned over internet child porn'

A member of dance group Massive Attack has been questioned over internet porn offences.

Robert Del Naja, known as 3D, was bailed by officers working on Operation Ore, the national crackdown on child porn.

Detectives seized computer equipment and a quantity of suspected drugs during a raid.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A man in his 30s from Bristol was arrested on February 25 in connection with allegations of the possession of class A drugs and Internet porn offences.

"He was bailed pending further inquiries."

The arrest was made under Avon and Somerset's Operation Ricochet, part of Operation Ore, the national crackdown on child porn.

Del Naja has denied viewing such material.

He said: "I have never looked at child pornography in my life.
I am fully cooperating with the police and I would ask everyone not to judge me prematurely. I have total faith in the justice system."

LONDON (Reuters) - A member of dance group Massive Attack has been arrested on suspicion of internet pornography offences, police sources said on Thursday. Robert Del Naja, who denies the claims, was held by police on Tuesday in his home city of Bristol in the latest phase of Operation Ore, a year-long nationwide crackdown on internet child pornography that has led to more than 1,300 arrests. He was later released on bail. Police seized computer equipment and a quantity of drugs in the raid.

opinions on the net:

3-D was arrested but not charged, and is still free to leave the country to tour. He's co-operating fully w/ police, and denies ever having looked at child pornography. Seems highly unlikely that he would look at any child pornography with his knowledge of the internet age and the whole '100th Window' concept (that you can close 99 windows into your life - but big brother keeps watching through the 100th window).

It may be some form of response to his outspoken stance on the Iraq war. He is a staunch peace activist who regularly takes out double page ads for 'NO WAR'. With a number 1 album (down to 9 this week) in the UK he's still an important figure to many... but when people are in protest of gov't policies too much who hold a certain amount of fame, things seem to get "mysteriously" planted and people's lives get "unexpectedly" messed up, it can ruin your status and reliability to the general public who accept anything thrown at them.

you know what is quite scary about this stuff, somebody can easily put some child porn on your computer and then your life is basically over.

it's a serious issue, but this is something I can see being used as a weapon by corrupt government officials and law enforcement authorities.

be cautious, be afraid.

if this turns out to be a bogus charge, there should be serious consequences against the accusers, you cannot go around destroying people's reputations with unsubstantiated charges, unless it's in the name of fighting terrorism, of course
