I like that the premise of this thread is purposely vauge so there are a huge variety of answers. I am only gonna list one by each artist for now.

I would have to say

Personal Jesus-Depeche Mode
Devil Inside-INXS
Everybody Wants To Rule The World-Tears For Fears
You Might Think-The Cars
More Than A Feeling-Boston
I Melt With You-Modern English
The Promise-When In Rome
Vertical Horizon-You're A God
Beatles-Come Together
Simon And Garfunkel-Ceceila
Bruce Springsteen-Born In The USA (I heard it on the radio and it reminded me how much I love it.
Third Eye Blind-Horror Show (one of their best but nobody knows it cuz its only on the Varsity Blues soundtrack)
Beach Boys-Wouldn't It Be Nice (I love the Beach Boys and its hard to pick just one but it is from the classic Pet Sounds and I love this song, I bust it out whenever someone says that phrase)
Oingo Boingo-Dead Man's Party
The Killers-Somebody Told Me
Goo Goo Dolls-Iris

That is a good enough list for now. Who is going to tally it all now?

Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine

David Usher - Devil by My Side

Love & Rockets - Ball of Confusion

Matthew Good - 21st Century Living

I interpreted your request as looking for songs from relatively obscure, older or non-mainstream artists. The above songs just pick me up when I listen to them or drive me to do something.
