U2's Pre-recording Ritual
Band tests itself before recording each new album
By Sheila Green
DUBLIN, IRELAND Thursday 11.14.2002 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Before putting out each new album, the boys in U2 are deathly afraid that this time they'll have finally worn out their welcome and become a punch line.
So they have a little ritual that they go through before heading into the studio to work on a new album. No, it doesn't involve Miss Cleo or any other psychic. The NMC eCharting artists just ask themselves a couple of questions.
Guitarist the Edge says, they've never taken for granted that they could make music. "I think we kinda check ourselves every once in awhile, just to make sure that it's still working for us. And I think the criteria's always been the same, you know, 'Are we still making great records? Are we still relevant? Is it still working?' You know, 'Are we, are we enjoying it, and are the people that listen to the records enjoying it?' And so far, we can answer 'yes' to all those questions."
