Foo Fighters, Timberlake Crash U.K. Charts
There was great news for Foo Fighters but disappointment for Justin Timberlake as the new U.K. charts were unveiled yesterday (Oct. 27). Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters went straight to No. 1 with their new RCA album "One By One." But Timberlake's solo debut single for Jive, "Like I Love You," entered at No. 2, unable to remove "Dilemma" by Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland (Universal) from the top.
U.K. male pop-R&B quartet Blue, who scored two No. 1 singles last year with "Too Close" and "If You Come Back," entered at No. 3 with the new single "One Love" (Innocent/Virgin). U2 scored a No. 5 entry with "Electrical Storm" (Universal/Island), one of two new songs on the upcoming "Best of 1990-2000" compilation, out Nov. 4 in the U.K. and a day later internationally.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Zephyr Song" (Warner Bros.) opened at No. 11 on the singles tally. Elsewhere, the latest chart artist to emerge from the "Pop Idol" TV talent series is Rosie Ribbons, who was new at No. 12 with "Blink" (T2). She's the seventh contestant on the series to progress to the top-40, following Will Young, Gareth Gates, Rik Waller, Darius, Jessica Garlick, and Sarah Whatmore.
On the album chart, Richard Ashcroft's "Human Conditions" (Hut/Virgin) began at No. 3, failing to match the No. 1 entry of his first solo set, "Alone With Everybody," in July 2000. Young Polydor pop act S Club Juniors arrived at No. 5 with "Together," followed by rock act Feeder at No. 6 with "Comfort in Sound" (Echo), the group's fourth album but the first since the January death of drummer Jon Lee.
Europe-wide, Elvis Presley's "ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits" (RCA) started a third week at No. 1 on Music & Media's Top 100 Albums survey, and it's now seven weeks at No. 1 on the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles chart for Las Ketchup's "Asereje/The Ketchup Song" (Columbia).
