U2 to open new American football season
Superstars U2, BON JOVI and ENRIQUE IGLESIAS are being lined up to headline a huge concert in New York city's Times Square, just days before the anniversary of September 11.
The 5 September gig - to celebrate the start of the American football season - is designed to demonstrate the Big Apple's resurgence a year after the terrorist attacks that crippled the city.
If given the go-ahead, the 90-minute bash will kick off a day before the US Congress is due to meet in New York City for a symbolic one day session - and comes just seven months after U2 performed at the American football Superbowl in New Orleans.
KEEP THE FAITH rockers Bon Jovi will headline the afternoon event, before flying by helicopter to GIANTS STADIUM in East Rutherford, New Jersey, to play during half-time of the NFL season opener between the NEW YORK GIANTS and the SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - the first ever season opening game played on a Thursday.
