AIDS documentary previews in Los Angeles
A Closer Walk, a new documentary on the global AIDS crisis by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Bilheimer, is set to be previewed on Wednesday, February 5, in Los Angeles, USA Today reports. Narrated by actors Glenn Close and Will Smith, the film tells the stories of a Harvard researcher who runs an AIDS clinic in Haiti; a 15-year-old Ugandan teenager who dropped out of school to care for his family; a preacher and former mayor of Kansas City who talks about AIDS issues at his church; the Dalai Lama; Irish rock star and AIDS activist Bono; and others affected by or working to fight HIV/AIDS. Bilheimer plans to market the film to movie theaters, national and international television stations, schools, colleges, and grassroots groups. General Motors also has donated $500,000 to finance a public awareness program to screen the film in additional theaters in Washington, D.C.; Kansas City; Johannesburg, South Africa; and New Delhi.
