Bono with his children or other children gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.

When you read a quote or see a moment where you get the sense that these arent 4 men playing together in a band but 4 friends playing in a band with a bond that seems to run deeper than just the music.

Larry wishing Elvis hadn't been buried in the backyard:|

.

I also like it when I read quotes from the guys talking about how much they admire and respect women in general. It's such a good feeling to be a fan of a band who thinks so highly of women, who refuses to treat them as some second-class people.

And I also love reading stories from fans who've met the guys, simply because so many of the stories have been so sweet-the guys have been so good to the fans they met. It definitely makes those of us who haven't been lucky enough to meet them feel a lot less nervous should our chances ever come, 'cause we know that they'll be nice to us.

I agree. I respect the heck out of their feelings about women. So many rock stars are such sexist pigs. Our guys clearly are not. They're so *intelligent* as well as being sweet.

Cute Edge story I found on ShowBiz Ireland (from like '99 or so). Anyway, Bono talks about his parents and family quite a bit but the others not so much, so here's Edge rooting on his da...

The Edge, aka Dave Evens was talking in the Royal Hospital in Donnybrook where his father Garvin Evens was launching a CD alongside Father Ted star Frank Kelly. The CD called All Through The Night was made by the Dublin Welsh male voice choir who were formed by Garvin and some Welsh friends in 1966 after he emigrated from llanelli, Wales.

The U2 guitarist also spoke of the influence his father has had over his musical career over U2 20 year career. "My father has been a great influence on me and their was always music around the house when I was growing up,"

The Edge said before heading back to the studio. "The rest of the band are still in the studio working on the album and I just came up here to show my support and get a copy of the album. I have to head back to the studio now for the rest of the night to continue work on the album."

The Star: Bono's Mercy for Sick Kids
[ 18/01/2000 ]

From The Star:

Bono's Mercy for Sick Kids

Big-hearted Bono answered the millenium prayers of a group of cancerstriken kids when he dropped in on their hospital party.

Youngsters at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, wrote to santa begging him to bring their rock idol to the festive bash.

And the U2 star made their dreams come true by arriving unannouncedon their ward. A hospital worker said "It was just magical. The kids couldhardly believe their eyes."

The 39 year old superstar visited them in a hospital after hearing how theyhad begged santa to help them meet their hero before the new millenium.

The treat was kept so secret that even the nurses were taken by surprise.

And astonished youngsters could scarcely believe their eyes as the U2singer stepped onto their St John's ward alongside supermodel NaomiCampbell, telly stunner Anna Friel and Bono's best pal Gavin Friday

The celebrity and chums stayed for an hour to entertain the dozens ofyoungsters, who are all being treated for leukaemia.

One hospital worker said " The kids here are really special and they puttogether a letter to Bono asking if he's come along to their party. One ofthe people on the ward wrote the letter for them and sent it off, but neverheard anything back. When they got no reply the thought he was probablytoo busy with Christmas and everything to make it. But then he turned upat the reception of the hospital and said he was looking for St John's wardand asked if could go to the children's party."

"One of the nurses nearly fainted. Bono and his friends were escorted to theward and, when they arrived some of the children actually cried because theywere so happy. Because it was a Christmas party the mums and dads werethere too and could see how it helped their children.

"Something like this is fantastic for them. It gave them a real boost thatyou could actually see in their faces. It made them feel really special-which of course they are."

Bono and his friends made the visit privately and shunned all publicity. Butone nurse was so impressed at how the celebrities helped the childeren thathe decided to speak out.

He said " Bono turned up out of the blue along with Naomi, Anna, and Gavin. They mixed with the kids and we had an absolutely fantastic time. Thechildren were pleased.

"It was a wonderful thing for them to do and everyone had a wonderful time.It is a memory the youngsters will have forever and it really made theirChristmas and New Year. No one who was there will forget it and we are sogreatful to them. It was a present you couldn't put a price on."

These guys are the best.

Even if their music isn't your cup of tea, you still have to admire them for being kind, thoughtful, caring, humanitarians and all-around good people.

Bono, Edge, Larry, Adam, we love you and wish you and yours a wonderful Holiday Season. :)

Ditto all of this. These guys' parents obviously raised them right.

That hospital story is awesome! What a sweetheart. :bono:.

I remember one interview with bonos dad and he said when Bono was small he used to wander around the backyard and pick up bees. His parents were afraid that he would be stung but he never was. They said he would lift the bee up with his finger and talk to it when he was 3 yrs old:cute: :cute:

 I  that story.

His charm is unavoidable-that's the very first thing about him that got me interested. :).

The picture of Ali, John and Bono reminds me of the radio interview Bono gave about leaving Chicago straight for Dublin and how when he got to the house he got home to a "very cool customer" and how impressed he was with the nurses and when they handed John to him the first time John opened his mouth and yawned and Bono said "He's bored already!"

So so

I have never heard the childrens hospital story. That's just beyond words. Bono is somthing else, and cudos to Gavin, Naomi
& Anna for making these children so happy. They are all just so

edited to say: on the Slane DVD when they are playing Stuck in a moment, Bono stands behind Adam and rest he head on Adams back. It's such a loving moment, almost as if he's listening for Adams heartbeat. Also during Untill the end of the World, the beginning of the bullfight scene, he grabs Edge and kisses him on the cheek. I just love the level of love between these best friends and the fact they have no problem showing it.

Mmhm. Thank god for people who still care about others in this world. We really need a lot more people like them.

That is absolutely adorable. :)

What makes me go aww is fan stories, candid photos of the band just hanging out, all the stories in this thread, and how unselfish and awesome this band still is.

Bono has almost always kisses Edge on the cheek during "UTEOTW" (at least during the Elevation tour) -- it's Judas' betrayal kiss to Jesus. But that doesn't mean it's not a cool, sweet thing. Also, the Bono & Edge hug at the end of "Staring at the Sun."

That one picture I've seen of Bono as a baby...Eli looks almost exactly like that.

*Thinks back to picture*

Hey, you're right! Wow, I never really noticed that before...

Seems to be a common thing in his family-there's a picture of Bono's family when Bono was a kid, and his dad looked exactly the way Bono did during the late 90s in particular, and now Eli's taking on Bono's features...

Bono's poem about Eli....I think? soooooooooo cute

"While, like a giant proud and happy
i take my baby in my arms
Fragile, innocent, and alive
like a little bird pushing against my chest.
Abandoned, quiet, and he's save
for an instant, almost sweetly
Destiny appears to me like a dream
and i see myself, old and surrendered
seated there near the coalfire
Waiting for the evening with the anxiety of a child
Just to see him coming back home
The gift of his smile, his words, kindness
is like a promise that can solve the enormous joy
of one of his caresses.
Then i wake up, and i've already forgotten.
But inside of me, the kid's trapped soul advises me
that this newborn child is already
more important to me than that my own life

Ah, I love the way he reads that poem. So incredibly cute.
