(With my acute apologies for taking so damned long!!! I think that MacPhisto story tapped all my creative juices for some time! Hopefully the next one will be faster).

Electrical Storm

It was a sweltering hot summer day, and Adam Clayton lay flaked out on his chaise longue with a cold drink in one hand and an ornate Chinese silk fan in the other, feebly fanning away the sweat that poured down his bare chest. A sarong skirt was loosely tied about his hips and a flip-flop dangled from his toe. Adam mused that in weather like this, women had it made?so many more clothing options.

Adam swirled and clinked the ice cubes in his glass, the corners of his mouth drooping in a sad pout. The heat wasn?t the only thing making him miserable. It had been a month since his breakup, but his heart weighed heavily in his chest. He was completely unmotivated in the studio, indeed in anything he did lately, and this heat didn?t help one iota. What he needed was to escape for a while, to do something totally unusual, something cleansing, something inspiring!

Suddenly, Adam?s CD of ?Nature Sounds for Quiet Contemplation? which had been playing in the background emitted the trilling cry of loons calling on a remote lake. Adam sat up straight in his chair. ?Eureka!? He exclaimed. He had always wanted to go on a canoe trip in the wilds of Canada, and by God, now was the time. He was sick and tired of all this lording about the mansion and having his every whim attended to. It was time to get in touch with his inner manly man?.to commune with nature, battling the elements and surviving by instinct and his wits alone. Besides, if Bono could run around the world putting U2 related projects on hold, so could he.

Grinning from ear to ear, Adam emailed the band, telling them he was going away on a trip for a few weeks, and that he would be back refreshed and ready to get to work upon his return. He then packed a few provisions in a backpack, bought an online bus ticket to North Bay Ontario, where he would purchase his canoe trip supplies, and hopped in his car. He was off!

***

?Jess??
?Suzie?? Susanna rushed over to give Jess a hug after disembarking from the Ontario Northlander bus that had just dropped her off in the small town of Temagami Ont, pop. 300.

Susanna had decided the time had come for another visit to Canada to visit some interference friends. Jessica thought that for a change of scenery from the big cities like Montreal and Toronto, it might be nice for her to visit her family?s small island in Temagami, which was a 6-hour drive north of Toronto. The island was at the far end of the lake and surrounded by wilderness. The water was so pure you could drink out of it. The silence was broken only by the sounds of birds chirping, and the wind in the trees. It was gorgeous. The girls were fully intending to spend their long weekend lounging around the verandah, canoeing, swimming, reading and of course, talking about U2.

After a lunch of toasted western sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes at the Busy Bee restaurant, Jessica and Susanna climbed into a well-worn steel boat with a 35 horsepower outboard motor, and headed out for their final leg of this journey.

Meanwhile, Adam was standing in the North Bay Wal-Mart puzzling anxiously over pup tents, sleeping bags and outdoor propane cookers. Squinting through his glasses, he tried to make out which sleeping bags would be appropriate in the current climate. Finally, he could no longer stand the stress, so he simply told the nearest store assistant to get him ?everything required for an extended canoe trip through the wilderness.? In short order, the delighted sales rep had loaded Adam?s rented SUV to the gills with equipment. He was off. He continued North on Hwy 11, and then up a long gravel access road to lake Temagami.

By the time Adam had loaded his equipment into his tippy canoe with the sun beating down upon his Tilly-hated head, our hero was sweating profusely. ?God, what I wouldn?t do for a swim!? he moaned.

With some dismay, Adam watched as swarms of campers, cottagers and locals buzzed in and out of the main docks in their boats, leaving him with absolutely no privacy for any skinny tipping, or even for changing into a bathing suit for that matter. Not that there was any space for swimming at all anyway. One thing really pleased him however?.no one had paid him the slightest bit of attention.

As sweat droplets slowly tricked down his back, he clambered into the canoe, and padded out into the lake. It was time to find a camping ground to settle into, and to have a swim. As Adam negotiated the waves, he thought about how he would spend the night in his tent, listening to the crickets and contemplating the stars. He would then awake early the next day, refreshed and ready to paddle deep into uncharted territory.

Four hours later?..

Jess and Suzie were lounging on the verandah reading, when Jessica, as usual decided she couldn?t possibly wait for dinner, she had to have a snack (or two) this very instant. Standing and stretching, she wandered into the cottage and got herself a large bag of ketchup chips. As Jessica sat munching the heavenly red savories, Suzie decided to go down to the dock to measure the water temperature. 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Not exactly a bath temperature, but in this heat, it might prove refreshing. She sat on the dock and dipped her toe in the water.

Suddenly, she noticed heaviness in the atmosphere. A dark cloud had crept across the horizon and the lake had turned a silvery mercury colour as it stood still, with not a ripple creasing its complexion. An impenetrable silence enveloped them. Clearly there would soon be a horrendous thunderstorm. Jessica was debating whether to take a quick swim before the storm, which would surely cool the water even more, when she suddenly noticed the figure of a lone canoeist in the distance.

She wondered what someone was doing in a canoe in the face of such inclement weather. Perhaps this was a hapless tourist who had been caught unawares. Not surprisingly, a dark rumbling could be heard in the distance, followed by a drop or two of water, finally breaking the surface of the leaden mirror.

Suddenly, a bright flash of lightening ripped across the sky. Out here in the northern wilderness displays such as these were both majestic and frightening. They were dangerous too. Once Jessica?s father was sitting in a chair on the verandah when a bolt of lightening struck the tree next to the cottage, ripped it?s way through the veranda, tossing him across the room, and then it slithered along the clothesline, into another tree and was gone, leaving only sizzling tree bark and a ruined verandah in its wake. The water was definitely not the place to be in weather like this!

Adam began to panic. According to his map, he was at the end of Island Bay, one of the most isolated areas on Lake Temagami. Near here somewhere was an abandoned island that many campers used en route to the next leg of their canoe trip. Adam had paddled for several hours and was completely exhausted. He was grateful that the sun had subsided over the past hour or so, but it never occurred to him that he would soon be caught in an electrical storm. Being only a novice, and having never pitched a tent before, Adam was terrified of the horrors that awaited him. He had visions of howling wind and stinging rain pelting him as he tried to lash his tent. Then the tent would blow into the lake and a bear would come and eat him! It didn?t bear thinking about!

It was about this time that he noticed a small cottage on an island not far from where he was paddling. He observed a woman looking at him. Something about her body language seemed anxious. He wondered if perhaps he might be able to seek shelter there until the storm had subsided. He waved at her and cleared his throat.

?Ehm, excuse me!? He shouted. His voice echoed through the trees.

?Yes?? He heard a female voice call back.

?I don?t mean to be rude, but is there any possibility that I might land on your island while the storm passes? I hate to just drop in on you like this, but I?m a little worried about getting electrocuted.?

?Of course! I was going to ask you that anyway when you got a bit closer. You?d better hurry!?

?Cheers!? He replied with much relief coursing through his veins. With all the strength he could muster from his spent arms, Adam paddled vigorously to the island. Suzie waited and observed the stranger as he got closer. He was wearing dark sunglasses, and had a white Tilly hat pulled firmly to just above the rim of his glasses, so it was hard to tell what he looked like?but there was warmth to his voice that appealed to her instantly. And he had a British accent, and was so polite!

Adam was able to paddle the canoe with considerable speed towards the dock, but he had not yet learned how to parallel park. The canoe torpedoed towards the dock and soon crashed headlong into its side with a huge crash, sending wood splinters flying everywhere.

?Oh dear, I am sorry!? Adam exclaimed. Suzie winced. Jessica peered through the screen door, licking red ketchup chip dist from her fingers and thinking about how pissed off her dad would be about the state of his dock.

Adam stood up in the canoe, and forgetting that it was not in fact a steady boat, promptly lost his balance and, with arms flailing most inelegantly, fell sideways into the water with an enormous splash. Jessica and Suzie began to snicker. This seemed like a private comedy routine cooked up just for their amusement. Bubbles began to float to the surface of the water?then a hat, and then the man, who spluttered incoherently as he flailed to stay afloat.

?Here, let me help you!? Suzie laughed, reaching out her hand, and pulling him towards the swim ladder. The rain began to pour harder.

?Oh, what am I going to do about all my stuff in the canoe!?? Adam wailed. By this time, Jessica had rushed down to the dock. ?Don?t worry, we?ll just throw a tarpaulin over it. Come inside! We have towels in there, and hot tea.? Adam began to feel better already. At least he was no longer sweaty. He was feeling refreshed and invigorated.

Once they got inside, Jessica started a fire, and Suzie handed the mystery guest some towels. The rain clattered noisily on the roof as the fire crackled. It was a wonderful sound. After drying his hair and replacing his glasses, Adam changed into some dry clothes and draped the wet ones around the stove. It was only then that Jessica and Suzie realized who was standing in front of them.

But it couldn?t be possible. What on earth would Adam Clayton be doing in Temagami? It had to be someone who looked like him. But that voice?it was unmistakable. Soon Adam noticed the silence that had descended upon the room. The only sound that could be heard now was the kettle on the stove whistling softly, the rain, thunder and the crackle of the fire. Both girls were making a big show of not staring and staring at the same time. And then Adam noticed that they both had U2 shirts on. The corners of his mouth began to press down in his unmistakable, sensual smile.

?I see that if I had to run into an electrical storm, this was the place to come!? He laughed, breaking the tension.

?That?s for sure?.now, how about some tea??

?Marvelous.?

As they drank their tea, Adam told the girls about his plans to canoe through the lake, up a river and portage into the unknown for the next two weeks, without so much as a cell phone to connect with the rest of the world. Not that he could have used a cell phone up here even if he wanted to! For now though it was getting late, close to dinnertime, and the storm was showing no signs of subsiding. Adam sighed deeply and asked if they knew the exact location of the camping island he had been searching for. It would take him some time to lash his tent in weather like this! Starting a fire would be impossible.

?Oh, Adam! Don?t be silly! It?s supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow, why don?t you stay the night and you can head out then. We have a guest cabin on the other side of the island, you would be most welcome to use that, and we would love to have you join us for dinner. I warn you though, we don?t have any TV, or electricity, it?s just the propane lamp and us. We can play games, or read, but there won?t be much to stimulate you.?

?That sounds like paradise really ?and besides, you?d be amazed at how easily I am able to come up with sources of stimulation!? Adam grinned and winked at Suzie, who blushed nervously and averted her gaze to the glowing embers in the fireplace. She hoped he would attribute the warm glow on her face to the reflection from the fire, and not to her fire within!

Following a dinner of hot stew and blueberry pie for dessert, the three settled down to an extended game of cards. Every now and then, Jessica would glance subtly under the table and notice the game of footsie that was going on under there?.and felt a pang of jealousy knowing that her feet were definitely not involved, but she was very happy for her friend, as she knew how important Adam was to her. If it had been the Edge however, both of them would have been dumped in the frigid waters long ago!

At about 11:00 Adam began to yawn. Normally at around this time he would begin to ponder going out for the evening, but this had been a particularly exhausting day. The rain had slowed to the odd droplet, and the loons cried forlornly in the darkness. Now was a good time to make a run for the guest cabin. Jessica and Suzie were supposed to be sharing the main cabin, which had two bedrooms in it, but Jessica had a feeling that after Suzie escorted Adam to the other side of the island to show him the guest cabin, that would be the last she saw of her until the next day!

?Well Adam,? Jessica began, ?It?s been a delight. It?s rare that we find gentleman callers of your distinction up here! Anyway, I will let Suzie do the honours and escort you to the guest cabin. There is a fireplace there, and everything else you need. Here is a propane lamp, just be sure you don?t step on a toad! They like to come out in the rain??

After hugs goodnight, Suzie and Adam walked through the soaking wet forest, the blueberry bushes slapping water against their legs, shoes making a squishing sound in the sodden dirt. Soon they arrived at the guest cabin, and as Adam unpacked his bag, Suzie lit a fire. When it was ready, she sat down on the edge of the bed, her body stiff with anticipation. Adam stood beside her and gently rubbed the back of her neck. ?I?m just going out to the?bushes for a minute, I?ll be right back. Why don?t you make yourself comfortable.?

?OK.? She whispered hoarsely. She wondered what would happen next. She noticed that Adam had left out a flannel shirt just for her?.unless he was planning on wearing two!

She quickly slipped into the shirt and while she wanted to go panty-less, soon thought better of it in case he might find that a bit too slutty and presumptuous. She tucked her legs daintily under the sleeping bag covers, and listened to Adam rustling about outside. Soon he found his way back to the cabin and shut the door.

?I know this will sound very presumptuous, but I was hoping you would spend the night with me here, as I don?t want to fend off the wild animals by myself!?

?But what if the wild animal is you?!? Suzie teased.

?Curses! My cover is blown!!? Adam chuckled, throwing himself on the bed beside her. ?Firelight definitely suits you by the way, the way it lights up your hair, and makes your skin radiate?I?m glad you?re here to make me feel safe.? He began to stroke her cheek softly.

Suzie felt like she would burst. He made her feel so special. She wrapped her arms around his neck and marveled that at long last, those lips she had dreamed about almost all her life were finally upon hers. Soon, the tender kisses escalated to become deeper, longer, and much more passionate. She felt his unshaven skin scratching her mouth, cheeks and jaw?.his strong hands explored her body so quickly, she began to worry that if this was really going to happen, it should not happen so quickly! She wanted this to last all night. She pulled away from him for a moment just to revel in the beauty that was in this man, to gaze at his face. She knew he lived the life of a rock star, but in a very sensual way he looked so peaceful and calm, so willing to be removed from that life.

?What?s the matter?? Adam asked incredulously, combing her hair with his fingers.

?Nothing?s the matter, I just want to prolong this as much as I can?make it last! If you?ll pardon the pun, I am stuck in a moment I don?t want to get out of!? Adam rolled his eyes at her joke and laughed softly. ?Actually I know what you mean. I just can?t help myself. You are just so gorgeous.? The way he said ?gooohgeous? with that accent, God he was sexy.

?You know,? he continued, ?You might think that this is a one night stand and that I will promptly forget about you in order to lead my picture perfect philandering rock star life. I wouldn?t blame you for thinking that, as to some extent that?s what I do, but I can absolutely guarantee I will never forget you. The only thing that worries me is how I am going to make it through this trip without seeing you again!?

Suzie could barely contain her excitement, and didn?t want to seem overly enthusiastic. Seizing control of her voice she said calmly, ?Let?s just enjoy this, and if you still want to see me when you get back from your trip, we?ll see what we can arrange...? Adam nodded and began to stroke her hair with one hand, while kissing her neck slowly, and deliberately. It felt so wonderful, unlike anything she had felt before, even though it was such a simple gesture. He was so obviously made for her and it made her want to cry. She was glad the frantic pace had been slowed down, and the romance and tenderness had returned. She began to rub her cheek gently against his, inhaling his pheromones and once again savoring the warmth and roughness of his stubble against her smooth skin.

Suddenly, Adam placed one hand on either side of her face and kissed her on the lips with a new ardor that she had never imagined could exist between two people. As they embraced, they stood up so as to be able to hold each other as closely as possible. Suzie ran her hand along Adam?s thigh, first outside, and then inside, until her hand was between his legs, stroking the soft mound under her hand until it became very warm and hard. Adam?s breathing quickened and a deep growl, emanated from the back of his throat as he continued kissing her.

Carefully, Adam slipped off her shirt, and then her panties, his eyes glowing with a distinct sexual hunger that she had never seen before. She was so turned on, it took every ounce of strength for her to not rush things just the way he had done earlier. Soon he was stark naked and finally she was seeing the AB cover?in the flesh! It was all she could do to keep from squealing with unbridled lust!!!

She knelt on the bed as he stood facing her, feeling heat rushing through her veins, engulfing her. She wondered if she would be able to make it through this without fainting. ?oooooooh?? she moaned involuntarily as she ran her hands over his chest and stomach, which were smooth, warm and nicely toned. Soon she was kissing his chest, inhaling his scent deeply and running her tongue teasingly over his nipples, and down his waist?and then she took him in her mouth. She could feel him shuddering with delight.

Soon he could wait no longer and Suzie lay back, inhaling sharply as she felt him slip inside her. She dug her nails into his firm ass and pushed him in more deeply with each thrust. Suzie gasped as tears rimmed her eyes, feeling herself floating into another universe. She didn?t know if it was the fresh air, the wilderness or simply that some things were meant to be, but they moved as though they had been lovers for an entire lifetime, and crying with delight, they soon climaxed together.

Tingling and sweaty, they crawled under the sleeping bag and spooned together silently, no words being able to express how they felt. Staring hypnotically into the glimmering fire, sleep soon overtook them as the amber light flickered over their heavy eyes.

The next morning sunlight pushed its way through the heavy drapes, gently caressing and prying Suzie?s eyelids apart. Slowly, her eyes followed the dancing patterns the water and sunlight made across the ceiling and gradually, the memories came flooding back. She carefully turned herself over, afraid of what she might, or more tellingly ? might not find beside her in bed. But Suzie needn?t have worried. There, gazing warmly and wordlessly into her eyes, lay Adam Clayton, love of her life. The familiar lazy and sexy smile crossed his face as he pulled her closely to him so that her head could rest on his warm chest. She listened to his heart beating into her ear and knew in an instant that following her instincts had been the right thing to do.

Suddenly Adam sat up. ?Let?s go for a swim!? he exclaimed. Suzie wasn?t so sure about that, but she would have followed him anywhere. Adam opened the door to their small cabin and the sight that greeted them took their breath away. The lake was as still as glass, with a veil of mist hovering above it. The only sound that could be heard was, appropriately enough, the chirping of birds and the buzzing of bees. The dew glittered on the spider webs and the sun gently kissed their bare skin.

Gingerly, Adam dipped his toe in the water. ?Maaahvellous!? He exclaimed. He promptly dove head first into the water. Suzie followed suit. The frigid water was a real shock to her system, but soon it felt like satin caressing every nook and cranny of her body. She swam out to him and soon he found a rock to stand on. He pulled her close to him, and she wrapped her arms and legs around his torso. With sunlight glistening on their hair, and mist wrapping around them protectively, she luxuriated in the sensation of his warm skin against hers, protecting her from the cold water that surrounded them. She hoped this would be symbolic of what lay ahead?just the two of them facing the world together.

***

Adam couldn?t bear to go on his canoe trip alone, so he decided to take Suzie with him. She was more than happy to oblige. After a hearty breakfast, and with the smells of wood smoke and coffee filling them with the spirit of adventure and the outdoors, Adam and Suzie paddled off into the sunrise together. And what a trip it was. They braved wind, rain and heat, walking through bushes and huddling in their tent over a campfire?but they were braving it together. They had never had such a wonderful time. As they lay in their sleeping bag under the stars, Adam asked her to fly back to Dublin with him, and if she would consider staying with him at Rathsfarnum. It was the invitation she had been waiting a lifetime to hear.

When they returned to Dublin, Adam regaled the band with tales about how he had met the love of his life in an electrical storm. He knew the rain had washed away his bad luck, when as the day was breaking he awoke to discover her lying with him, with no sheets on their bed. They had ventured to places no one else had been, and seen colours no one else had seen. It wasn?t enough to have her in his mind all the time, or to dream someone else?s dream. They had to be together forever more...they had found their way back to love and only love.

The End

This is an old story that has been bumped up, which means it is now subject to the new rules that were put into place not long ago as to what is acceptable in Fan Fiction.

As stated in the FAQ:

"Stories about the band.. you and the band.. even you kissing members of the band, is fine. However, nothing sexually beyond that will be acceptable. Graphic stories about you or any other girls having sex with the band will not be welcomed."
