Finally, a little good news to share. 
The message I edited last night was saying that further tests had shown that Dad's "spots" might have spread, at least to pancreas and perhaps further.
I just heard from them on the way home from the hospital, and today's testing confirmed that it had not spread and was only in the liver. This isn't that wonderful either but it's a big deal that it has not spread. At this point our hope is that this can be removed, since the liver regenerates, and all will be relatively well. Thanks everyone, I am usually very cynical about these things but I feel as if all the prayers here must have helped. 
Going to go listen to One now, it's calling me.
