according to folklore (Dunphy's Unforgettable Fire book) Bono had a problem with nosebleeds when he was young. (was it headaches too?) something about it happening in class? or did he have a tantum in class and flip over a desk in rage or something?

my memory of this is hazy. also, i'm wondering if these stories were ever mentained outside of the book - cuz we all know the book's fact are alittle stretched. did this happen or not...?

It's very common for teenage boys to have recurrent nosebleeds. The usual cause is nasal polyps, which are linked to fluctuations in certain hormone levels. They go away on their own with time.

As I recall, Dunphy romantically made Bono's nosebleeds out to be a manifestation of his brooding artistic nature and deep inner turmoils, etc, etc. Then again, to be fair, Dunphy's background was in sports journalism, a profession which is all about making the trivial seem profound.
