PLEBA and.....parents?!?!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Oh, Booboo isn't such a strange name for :bono: for my parents as well. *sigh* Everytime I have a picure lying around or something and my mom sees it, she goes: "Awww....are still after that Booboo? *pats my head* Yes, yes that is nice"
Some days ago my 26 yr (!) old brother came to me and said: "Well, so Bono is actually Sonny Bono, right?" - After that quote my brother's arm hurt and I got yelled at by my parents, because I beat my brother.....
Oh, yeah my father does call them 'U Zwei'. He doesn't want to hear that they aren't German. For him they are American and make Afro-American music --> because of that they have a German band name. *don't ask me why*
They all don't know PLEBA, because my parents can't handle the internet at home properly........but they get annoyed at my Bono pictures in my room. :D :D

This is interesting to me because I AM a parent! I'm 40 with 2 kids, a boy 16 and a girl 13. I tell you the Harry Potter message board my daughter stays on most of the time is worse than this! There are little girls and women as old as 26 wanting to strip the boy and get in the bathtub with him. There are blatant references to oral sex. It's filthy! I wanted to post a link to it here, but my daughter is afraid a bunch of people will go there and make jokes so I told her I wouldn't. It's not the main Harry Potter board, it's one someone started in honor of Daniel Radcliffe himself and it's really cool like Interference with features and avatars and icons. I wonder if the boy ever reads that or if his mommy lets him?!

I find it disturbing anyone who grew up in the rock and roll generation, people my age and even older, could be so old fashioned and corny about rock stars. They should be cool! Oh, and as I posted in the other thread, I do get criticism from my mom about spending any time here, which she thinks is a disgrace, and about going to several shows. But, my mom is 74 years old. I cannot understand anyone in their 40's feeling that way!

Well, that's what I thought, but guess I'm wrong! I'm cool though LOL! It's good to see some of you have families who don't mind. There used to be a bunch of old farts here, now most of them have drifted away. I think no matter what age you are or what you're into, sometimes people will just get on you for being too obsessed with one thing on the internet. (in their opinion!)

It gets much worse than that! The things they say they want to do to that boy are FAR worse than anything I've read here! Even when some do get 'dirty' here it's usually inuendo and off hand comments intending to refer to certain things, these girls just go ahead and say it! This place, even the 'elevated' thread is tame by comparison! I wonder how long it will be before it's shut down. I'd hate to be responsible, a lot of nice girls are having fun too. Maybe they just need to warn or ban the filthy ones. My daughter swears she never talks dirty, and I believe her. She's the one who showed me the nasty posts! Lots of her friends are there and they have a good time, but it can be extreme!

 That's sick. He's a boy of---what, 13?

Yes, he's 13 and most of the girls are 11-14 but some are older and one claims to be 26! That's sick. If it gets any worse maybe I should report certain ones. I don't like being a snitch but that borders on child porn.

I'm in the same boat as GypsyHeartgirl...I'm a mom of 2 boys 17 and 15 and PLEBA is pretty tame compared to some of the music boards they go to. My older son is very much into hip hop and some of the sites he goes to are borderline porno. We share a computer and sometimes I'm a little scared to even look.

As far as my own Mom goes, she would probably love PLEBA! She's 54 and a hardcore child of the 60's. Nothing makes her happier than sitting on her couch with the stereo blasting classic rock, drinking her Pepsi and smoking her "herbal product" Nothing she would see on PLEBA would shock her...she uses words that make me blush so she could hold her own here!

She is a very hip, cool Mom too. She sends me Bono birthday cards and thinks my obsession is "cute". She is actually the one who is responsible for this...she was the one who pointed out U2 to me for the first time on MTV! Thanks Mom!

Your mom sounds so cool! My parents are in their late 60s and don't like rock music. They always let me and my brothers and sisters listen to whatever we wanted to though. My brothers even used to have their own little garage band that never made it out of the garage, and I don't remember Mom and Dad complaining too much about the noise. I don't talk about U2 when I'm around them though, mainly because I don't think they would know Bono from Sonny Bono.

*returns to own thread late*

*replies anyway*

actually, my dad (he's uh....45 i think) is pretty cool. People are always complaining about their dads, but I like my dad, and yes, he pretty much grew up on rock and roll and a lot of what he and I listen to is the same such as the Rolling Stones, Dylan, CSNY, CCR, etc... I think he enjoys U2 a lot more that he'll ever admit, he really like Rattle and Hum album and asked me tons of questions when he first heard it. He does like to bug me, but not the way my mom does. My dad joost teases me and let's it go whereas my mom is really bitter and snappy about it like she's trying to pick a fight (which she isn't gonna get :madspit: )

I'm sorry about your problems, I know how you feel. Let's just hope those kids, and others on there are only mouthing off to seem cool and aren't really perverted. I wonder where the mods are sometime on those places?

Your mom sounds very cool, that's how I'm always going to be and I think you will be too! But she's 20 years younger than my mom. Just the same, we're cool moms and always will be!

I remember when I was going through my Queen phase. I thought Brian May was just a hottie LOL, I've just always been attracted to older men (esp men with bushy hair). Once I got into U2, my mom couldn't understand what the fuss was about, but agreed that Larry was a HUNK. I even thought Adam was cute and she doesn't know what's wrong with me LOL. Even my fiancee doesn't understand what the big fuss is about, but I think he's jealous that I obsess over Larry and I have pictures of him everywhere LOL, even on my computer he can't escape it LOL

I agree that PLEBA is relatively safe and harmless, considering the filthy chat rooms on the net. I've been to some to just talk about music, but it somehow always turns to sex and really dirty talk. Kids and teens are especially vunerable as they think they are just talking to a person on the internet and the person doesn't have a clue who they are talking to or what they look like, it's dangerous when kids start giving out information. There are alot of sickos out there

I had to stop leaving Bono pics lying around the house- my dad like to write " i like boys" on them:ohmy:

ME:HE'S NOT GAY!!!
HIM:well, I bet he's tried it before

LOL! Wow, your dad knows Bono so well! ;)

well I don't live with my parents any more (moved out about 2 1/2 months ago). They don't know about PLEBA, but they do know about my U2 and Larry obsession (but I don't think they understand the extent). I think if they knew about PLEBA they would be a little disturbed because they already think its weird that I have the hots for a man who is forty (I'm 19 and they're in their late 40s). My roomate knows about PLEBA and she thinks we're all psycho and that I need to get a life that doesn't revolve around U2. She does NOT like U2 (she likes teen pop, its so sad :tsk: ), so I increase my U2-ness around her just to drive her nuts, so I'm not actually obsessed as she thinks i am (although I am still seriously obsessed)

nica mom and char--

my mom is awesome. she still laughs about the time she was in chat....and threatens to do it again sometime  of course she came up with such lines as "what's a pleba?" and "what's a sicy?"

my mom actually got me into cool bands. she's into punk rock, like elvis costello, the clash, the who, and the talking heads. without her i would have never have seen mtv all the time when i was so young and have random u2 memories. :D

my parents are a bit older, and they are a bit too conservative and crc to like rock and roll.....however, my dad likes u2 (well, mostly what i make him listen to.....) and he  the beegees (ahh the joys of shrill falsetto....)...so i can't complain...but my parents are a bit weirded by my "obsession"....they're always asking and stuff......but my dad always asks me which songs he can use in his class (he's a high school teacher), so i'm always willing to share the goodness.....

your mom sounds so darn cool--i'd love to hang out on the couch with her someday.

although i don't have kids, i'm one of those older fans (turned the big 4-0 this year) who's still going to concerts and listening to music that supposedly older chicks like me don't listen to anymore (please. celine dion? lite rock stations? somebody shoot me first. :madspit:).

my parents NEVER listened to rock when i was growing up (thankfully, i have older sisters) and they hated it--absolutely hated those "godawful" noises coming out of my bedroom. complained all the time about how narcisstic rock and roll music was/is.

me? i just believe, kids or no kids, in keeping an open mind...whatever moves you, go with it. ;)

My mom (who is a big U2 fan, but works a lot so she doesn't get to come online and look at U2 sites very often) knows a little about PLEBA.. she knows all about Interference, and wants to join soon and everything, but she doesn't really know about PLEBA. She heard about Elizabeth's pants quest, and the "scary girls!" thing, and a few other stories.. but she hasn't ever been here before by herself. THAT would scare me  ;) I don't know what she'd think -- probably a little disturbed, lol.

My mom doesn't know about PLEBA per se. I just tell her there's a U2 board I go to: Interference. She's cool, being a huge U2 fan herself! I haven't really said anything about my Larry obsession though because she is definitely a Bono gal. :bono:

As for my dad...Mention anything about U2 to him and you get one of these:

I like your Mom already! I'm really sorry I missed her in chat...I laughed me arse off when I heard about it

Char, I wish YOU were MY mom, LOL. My mom is such a dud lately.... she's driving me insane! You at least need to talk some (Bono)sense into her!
