Hey girls!! Boy do I miss being in here!
smile.gif
Velvetdress and I are here and on our way to Philly in a few minutes. We posted this last night in EYKIW and wanted to share the night w/ you too!! There's a TON more (if you can believe it) which we will add later.

Last night was Providence 2- Stunning, just an incredible show, both of our favorites of every show we've seen.

By now you've seen the setlist and it was every bit as amazing in person as it was on paper. party girl, slow dancing, wild honey, and larry's awesome speech...

the band just came out rocking in a different fashion than prov 1. Bono ended Elevation with "celebration, celebration" over and over, and that just set the tone for the evening.

we're just gonna give brief highlights before we try to write it all out...

Until- instead of interacting with a girl, Bono took a helium 40th bday balloon from the heart and sang to the balloon then at the end of the 2nd verse he bit the string of the balloon, and released it. Then when he got to the tip, he pulled a photographer from the pit, but the guy seemed to be a fan who had happened to get press passes, not a news journalist. Instead of the bullfight! - he beckoned the nervous photographer towards him, as Bono embraced Edge, putting his arm around his neck as edge played and they both posed for the photographer until the end of the song.

After SBS, Bono said (from what we remember) "when i asked larry what he wanted for his 40th birthday, he said he wanted to play a gig in rhode island." Larry laughed and said something we couldn't hear, then stood up and waved. Then he walked around the kit to the front stage, where Bono presented him with a cake. Larry took the (chocolate) cake and pretended to throw it into the heart, laughing. Then Larry took the mic and -well the crowd went NUTS! we KNEW what a treat this was!!- "em, hello." and "i've waited 40 years to get up here at the front of the stage." at this point, bono is looking like a mischiveous boy on Larry's drumset. Then Larry says "and I really quite like it up here!" crowd goes wild. then he said something about feeling safe b/c "at least Bono can't play the drums" !!

Larry said next: "There's no way I'd rather spend my birthday than with 18,000 of my closest friends. I feel so close to you that I could borrow money from you." then he gave bono the mic back.

Bono said laughing "yeah and you'll never see it again."

AFter the speech Bono consulted Edge for a second, and the band started Party Girl. We flipped out!!!!! A large portion of the audience seemed to know it and they played the entire song, excluding just the line about "when i was three". It was a very solid version, unlike boston 4 with only Edge and Bono playing there.
After party Girl, again Bono paused and then started playing SLOW DANCING. by this time, we weren't sure if we had died and gone to U2 heaven. or if we were just home with the b-sides blaring. At some point Edge joined Bono on guitar, and then eventually Larry and Adam BOTH joined in as well. They played the whollle damnnn songggg it wwassss awessommme!!!!! AND BONO KNEW ALL THE LYRICS!!! AFter they repeated the chorus THREE times in a row, it became obvious that they didn't know how to end the song. Bono then started alittle speech about how "in Ireland we have a thing called the ballroom" and something about how they never got into it and that's why they became a rock and roll band, and he motioned to stop with his hands and the band complete ended the song w/o an ending. Edge was laughing and Bono was cracking up. It was hilarious, and such a treat!!!

After that a bottle of champagne magically appeared. Bono shook it and sprayed it all over the crowd, then on Larry, and then Larry took the bottle and took a healthy swig! He set it on his drumkit, smiling away and waving at the crowd's hysteria, and Edge casually ambled over for a swig of his own! When the crowd saw that they cracked up even more.

After a very solid Kite, SUDDENLY OMG here comes Wild Honey. AFter Bono performed CPR to rescuitate us he kindly finished the song. It was not another goof version. He jumped up on the ramp and walked to the tip where Edge met him and they sang the song together. It was fun and beautiful and again Bono sang all the right words.
Please acoustic with piano was next. It was beautiful.

Bad and they put the house lights up during the latter part of the song. It was great!

Streets- he recited part of the Psalm again, which he hasn't been doing on this leg.

Found- another good performance which kept the momentum going

PRIDE. These is from two girls, who btw, are a bit tired of Pride. BUT, tonight was a different story entirely. Somewhere in the middle of the song, Bono produced three beautiful girls wearing identical outfits- jeans with long sleeve shirt with the flag imprint. They followed him onstage behind Adam, onto the heart ramp behind Edge, and were dancing and clapping their hands to the song. Bono paused midway and offered his arms to escort the girls to the tip. At the tip, he said "i brought these girls up from the back of the arena, and i'm putting them in the front row." He helped them climb on each of the three platforms at the tip where Bono sometimes uses to step into the crowd. He left them there dancing and grooving and smiling and singing for the rest of the song. They were incredible. MLK speech was also included at the end of Pride.

We realize this is no longer a brief post!!
I had made a sign for Larry's birthday. It was basically the symbol for the Harley Davidson motorcycles, but instead of saying "Harly Davidson" I wrote "Happy Birthday" and where Motor Cycles was, I wrote Larry Mullen. Anyway. As the band was leaving the stage I threw the sign up in the air- we were near the back, inside tip of the heart. Bono IMMEDIATELY saw it and smiled and pointed at my sign and showed it to Larry. Larry smiled and said something- i *thought* it was "I know" but i'm not sure, either way he was loving it and once I realized they saw the sign i started jumping up and down and they looked at it for several seconds!

After the show I gave the sign to Dallas, who told me he would give it to Larry. Then Dallas went and got me the setlist Larry used to read during the show.

The rest of the show was solid and gorgeous, though no other heart attack inducing set list changes! Bono had us in the palm of his hand throughout the show and it was a much different atmosophere from the somber performance the night before.
From the setlist that Olive got, Wild Honey is on the setlist but Party Girl and Slow Dancing are not. Also, the setlist has POE, but they substituted it with When Will I See You Again.

Forgot to mention the stunning I Will Follow. "Ring those bells Edge" over and over was reintroduced. As well, Bono sang the words "You've changed....you've changed me. Thank you." It took our breath away. He was incredibly gracious and humble and you could tell it was a special night and special moment, and this lyric change was not pre-rehearsed or done for effect. He also changed the lyrics "Your eyes make a circle we see you when we go in here," while gesturing at the heart.

Between us we've seen almost 30 shows and tonight was possibly the most thrilling of all of them. The atmoshere in that arena was so joyful we thought our hearts might explode.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Also for all the Adam fans- that guy was just blissful up on stage! I don't think ONCE did we look at him and not see a smile on his face! And during Beautiful Day Bono changed the lyrics to "see Adam Clayton right in front of you"
biggrin.gif
smile.gif
The night before we were in front of Edge so we had some terrific thrilling Edge moments and wonderful opportunities to watch him. They were just in fine form last night and SO happy and in love with their audiences and fans.

Talk to everyone soon!!

hey olive and VelvetDress!!! it was so fun to meet you guys in line (i'm khelia's friend, alice). wasn't last night's show AMAZING??? party girl, wild honey, slow dancing... i'm still on a high! thank you for describing it so eloquently, as i am pretty much at a loss for words. it was just such a PARTY, such a fun and happy atmosphere! (it hasn't really been that way for a while, given the terrible events of sept. 11th.)

on a side note, i have a couple of little things to add. my friend khelia and i were dressed up for halloween- i was a cat (complete w/ feather boa, so i guess i was part ostrich as well!), and my friend was Macphisto. not many people in the front of the heart were dressed up (unforunately!), so we got big smiles from edge and he made sure to shake our hands. but for me, personally, the best part of the night was at the very end of the show. i was over towards edge's side of the stage, and as the guys were waving goodbye to the crowd, adam came right over to me (from the opposite side of the stage) and shook my hand. nobody else's, just mine! it's cheesy, but i was so happy! (especially because he's my favorite band member.) God, if they only knew what 3 seconds out of their lives meant to us girls... LOL!
another thing that made me happy was after larry was given the bottle of champagne (which edge drank, too), he walked over to the front of the stage and handed the (half-full) bottle to a HUGE larry fan named deena. i am so happy for her- she got to drink from the same bottle as larry and edge! *swoon* LOL!
smile.gif

anyway, the whole show was fantastic. i'm not coming down for a loooooong time!!!
smile.gif

Thank you sooo much for that review Olive!!

It was amazing to read. Seemed like a very different show! Congrats to have been there!!

I already replied to you in EYKIW Olive, but I will again, haha!
I'm so flippin' happy for you guys! That sounds like an absolutely awesome experience!
And yours to Ally! That rocks!
HOORAH!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!

Seems like there are so many people with post about how great the show was last night! I must admit though.... I think this one has taken the place of my favorite show... (Ally I was right behind you up front and saw Adam grab your hand!) This show was just phenomenal... they were all in great moods and really hamming it up for the camera (actually probably saying - how many pictures is this girl going to take? - seeing as how I went through about 8 rolls for both shows). I"m still flying!

SheIsRaging: we were right next to each other? cool! i am so glad that you enjoyed the show- it was really something special to be a part of.
smile.gif
it's too bad that we couldn't meet, though...
frown.gif
and i can't believe you took 8 rolls of film- wow! if you get a chance to post some of your concert photos, i'd love to see them! again, congrats on getting the chance to see a very special show.
smile.gif

I was in the second row a bit to the right of Bono. It was my first time with GA's and it was so unbelievable being that close. I am short so I was having trouble getting pictures (grrr wish I could have made it right to the rail..not that I was secretly bitter the whole night about it
wink.gif
) but I am hoping at least one came out okay. It definitely was an awesome concert. I almost died when I heard Bono turn to the Edge and mention Party Girl. I did see it in Boston in June but last night's was definitely better. Seeing as I really can't afford to go to any more shows I guess I am done for a while
frown.gif
. I am still pretending they are going to make a surprise stop in Boston in December. I know they said last night they wouldn't see us in the near future but maybe...denial is a wonderful thing

"And when it's raining,

sigghhh.. I'm still recovering from the 2 Prov shows. I was a trooper and drove from Olive's house 2 mornings in a row for an hour so I could go to work. (I'm a 5th grade teacher and it's sooo hard to miss a day!)

These were my 2nd and 3rd times seeing U2 ( I saw them 6/6 in Boston) and I was blown away! I was UNBELIEVABLY lucky to get into the heart both nights, especially since I didn;t get in the GA line til after 4, and even close to 5 one night. I was shocked, but extremely elated!

Unfortunately, I have the same problem as you, U2morrow, I am a short girl! (5'!!) and it is really tough trying to see while you are in the heart. Luckily, I was only about 3-4 people deep from the stage, so that helped. I got some so-so pictures; the shortness factor came into that, too, but some are decent, and I'm psyched.
smile.gif
Prov 2 was such a treat, and hearing Olive and Velvet fill me in on their past experiences just makes me realize that I witnessed some rare events.

I also had a few "interactions" with the boys! Prov 1 Edge winked at me as I was waving to him (he's such a cutie!), and most of the band noticed my "Larry Sing for us, Wild Rover" poster and I got a smile from Edge, Larry, and I'm pretty positive Adam nudged Larry about it after one of the encores. In Prov 2, I was screaming, waving, and giving thumb-up signs to Larry, who was sitting at his drumkit, while Bono was talking at the tip, and he looked at me and smiled (no teeth sadly). He probably just wanted to finally shut me up (which it didnt!)

I do have to just say negative thing. I had some really nasty people behind me in Prov 2; in terms of their attitude. Now, we all paid the same amount of money to be there, and being in the heart, you do have the right to have a sign. Prov 1, there was no problem with that. Prov 2, right from the start, the people behind me were MEAN. I had a sign for Larry;s bday ( Is Larry still 14 today, Bono?) and I wanted the band to see it. Literally, I had the sign up for 2 seconds and I was bitched at by the woman behind me. Let me just say there were f-bombs dropped, about her paying money to see this show. I said I had the right to hold up a sign in the heart. That didn't fly with her or some other people. Now, I was trying to be nice, and I didnt want to start anything so I kept it down a lot, esp when they were playing songs one right after the other, and it was dark so I knew they prob werent focused on the sign. However, at times when the lights were up, I would quickly put the sign up. People behind me were pushing it down and yelling at me, so I would fold it up a bit, so they could see. Well, that didn;t fly. Someone literally snatched the sign out from my hands from behind me and trashed my sign somewhere. I barely knew what hit me. I couldn't believe they had taken it from me. Then others were yelling at me that I had "ruined" it for everyone. Now, this is not me, I am the LAST person to want to start a fight. Plus, I had the right to have a sign; it's not like I couldn;t have it. I just had to vent that out b/c I was appaled at the behavior of some of these fans. We are all here for a common purpose and I have no need to ruin everyone's night. It wasn't like I was the ONLY person there with a sign, either. Anyway, it just upset me. I pushed it out of my mind b/c I didnt want it to put a damper on my evening. To counterbalance that , I met some very friendly fans and enjoyed chatting with them. Nancy, if you are reading this- how are ya buddy?
smile.gif

Overall, a great 2 days, and my laryngitis is well-earned. Needless to say, I will be doing a lot of pointing in school tomorrow, and the kids will have to figure out my "sign-language."
wink.gif

Thanks for listening, and I would love to hear more Prov experiences if they are out there!

I read somewhere that he put on a halloween costume that consisted of Elvis Glasses and Elvis Chops? Any truth to this?

No, unfortunately, he didn't dress up as his idol. however, at the end of the show, he went over to some person in the front row, near Adam, so I couldn't see who it was. He took a pair of silly sunglasses from that person, they kind of looked like 50's glasses with the "wings" at the end of the glasses. he put them on for like 2 seconds, facing sideways, so we didnt get a full frontal
smile.gif
view of Larry with the glasses on. It was cute! He was in such a good mood that night, talking to us, pretending to throw the cake, putting on the glasses, adn he gave the champagne bottle to a fan, too.

Thanks GiantLemon! You can't let things like that ruin an experience as incredible as this one!! It was unbelievable!!

Mullen-Girl, have a great time!!! Hopefully you will get a cutie smile out of Larry like I did!! Tell us all about it when you get back!

Heylo girls!!! Kathleen omg i'm so excited to see your pics!! CVS is doing mine now, but their scanner is broken!! booo!!! I just got back from Philly and i'm beat! but still so excited and i really want to go see them again tonight- gosh what a week!

Ok just wanted to update you all on my little sign interaction w/ larry. i know it's not a real big deal but you might be interested- anyway I ran into the truck driver in Philly, this is the guy who initially loved my sign and told me to try to give it to Larry. Anyway i let him know that i gave it to Dallas and he said Dallas would definitely give it to Larry, and he bet that Larry would even keep the sign b/c he'd like it that much.

It's probably more like he's infatuated w/ the sign's creator but it's all he has to remind him of her *sniff sniff*

I guess it would be great if this was right and not that's its going to the the Boston show from the 1st leg. I'm sure those of you that attended Providence 2 would love to capture those memories on VHS. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
