Condensed from The Irish Independent:
Howth Lodge Hotel is to go in new development scheme
CHRISTMAS cheer is on the way for the innovative Cosgrave Brothers
who were just granted permission to demolish the Howth Lodge Hotel
and develop on the lands off the Howth Road in Co. Dublin. The property
was purchased by the construction firm for around 12m pounds more
than three years ago.
The brothers have experienced more than a little difficulty in clearing the
planning hurdles for an apartment scheme overlooking the beach there
over the past few years.
Two previous applications for 102 and 69 apartments were turned down
respectively by An Bord Pleanala after neighbouring property owners,
including U2 drummer Larry Mullen and former Attorney General Harry
Whelehan, raised objections to the granting of permission by the local
authority.
The site is on the sunny side fronting onto Claremont beach so the
apartments there would have spectacular views over Ireland's Eye and
Lambay Island. The latest approval clears the way for 51 units as opposed
to the 57 applied for by Cosgraves.
In a low density development, sited on a transport node, the apartments
will be built in two and three storeys plus penthouse buildings, together
with a single storey two-bedroom house and a total of 119 car parking
spaces, about half of which will be underground.
Howdy Neighbor!!
