Bono Is Proud To Be Irish...
ShowBiz Ireland, December 13, 2001
U2's frontman Bono has spoken out about how proud he is to come from Ireland and how he will never leave Ireland.
Speaking to an Irish magazine this week the singer said, "Why should fame change us? We are just ordinary guys. I have toured all over the world with the band. But, I always want to come home to Dublin. This is my home. In Ireland everyone treats us for what we are. Human beings, musicians and Irish. I speak for the others when I say we are proud to be Irish."
He continued, "I've been touring the U.S. with the band since 1981 and I'm still thrilled by it. I don't partake in the spanking of the yank. That's more of an English thing. I love being on tour there and the band do as well. It's not about that rock and roll cliche of the rock and roll band tearing up the place. It's about having the chance to get out and see museums, check out the architecture and see something of the world."
Speaking of his marriage he says he is just very lucky. "I got married when I was young so it definitely was not planned. I just met this extraordinary woman who turned my whole life upside down. It was not in the game plan. Ali is very cool about the disruptions to family life. It's where we both come from."

"I turn slightly and catch Bono with half a Perrier bottle in his mouth. He's sucking the thing in such a manner it would put Madonna to shame!"
"I'm very secure with the fact that I'm not black. I'm white, pink and rosy. But I've got soul."
