so who is really gonna go to this? i'm seriously considering it. i tried going to the web site, and the september events page doesn't show up...so i'm not sure how much this will cost or if nonmembers can attend. i'm excited though, i'll be not too far from philly at that time.

This is what it said in the article: "Details about the 2007 Liberty Medal ceremony at the National Constitution Center will be released at a later date and made available online at http://www.constitutioncenter.org/libertymedal. In keeping with tradition, a limited number of tickets to the ceremony will be made available to the public for free on a first come, first served basis."

If I can get a ticket (which is probably easier said than done) and it works with my fall teaching schedule, I could attend. I'd probably just come to town for the day, though, and drive back after the ceremony.

If I remember correctly, the center is in a very pretty historical section of center-city Philly. I stayed not too far from there when I saw my first Vertigo show two years ago, and a friend and I got a very nice hotel room for $75/night off of Hotwire.

Let's hope U2.com doesn't get involved raffling off tickets

thanks for that! i think it is cool that you can get tix over the phone instead of having to go over there and stand in line to get them. i wouldn't mind spending the weekend in philly. i've been there a few times before. $75/night is a sweet deal!

See the following link for this:
http://www.impact.schwab.com/

This thing cost over $1,000 and you have to be media or a member/advisory of Schwab. NOT FAIR!!!

It also doesn't list his name yet. But that doesn't mean anything...

Bono to set tone for IMPACT conference
By Brooke Southall
May 14, 2007
Schwab Institutional will featuring rock star and philanthropist Bono as its keynote speaker for its annual IMPACT conference at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to be held on Oct. 28-Oct. 31. The lead singer of Irish rock band U2 will stress humanitarian causes and is donating the speaking proceeds paid by the San Francisco-based asset custodian to Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa, his philanthropic foundation.
“We have advisers managing hundreds of billions for clients,” said Schwab spokeswoman Lindsay Tiles.
“Advisers and their clients have a chance to have a big impact on the world,” philanthropically.
In keeping with the Las Vegas venue, Schwab is also featuring Steve Wynn, chief executive of Wynn Resorts Ltd. of Las Vegas.
As chairman and chief executive of MGM Mirage, also of Las Vegas, Mr. Wynn developed Treasure Island, The Mirage and Belaggio resorts.
Fareed Zakaria, editor of Newsweek International and Lee Eisenberg, author of "The Number," will also speak.

ill def. be there no matter what =D philly is only like an hour away from me.
plus tickets go on sale or whatever in august i think..convienently around the time of my birthday

The tickets for this event will be free but it will be a frenzy to try to get one over the phone.

Watch the website around the end of July for upcoming info regarding the ticket "give away".

Personally, I wish that they would simply charge for the ticket and not let things fall to one's "luck" on getting a ticket.

At least people would have a fairer chance at knowing where they stand on this matter.

I guess now's the time for me to contact some folks I know.

ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie :bonodrum: :hi5:
