In his speech at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, Adam said:

"30 years ago I got my first bass guitar, or, as I thought, a guitar with only four strings. I had no idea what bass was"

Added, of course, to the fact that he wasn't that good at playing it (but by using technical terms, he impressed the rest of the band) and yet still managed to make them think it everyone but him that was doing something wrong when they messed up, Adam's history with the bass is...entertaining, to say the least!
