Why is the Edge 'plugged in'?

I hear it is restricting his movement around the stage. What is the reason for his guitars generally being plugged in?

He is not pleased with the sound his wireless mics provide for certain songs. He and Dallas usually go through a bunch of different wireless units prior to each tour. Unfortunately, it would appear that, for this tour, he didn't find a "one-size-fits-all" wireless option.

Edge is playing quite possibly the biggest role in these shows. He is singing a lot in these songs along with playing tons of slide guitar. I'm sure he doesn't enjoy walking around with that big backstreet boys style mic-headset he uses for Zoo Station! All of that together combined with the fact that he is a super tone freak sums it up for me. I remember even on the Elevation tour some guitars were wireless but for many songs they were hard wire plugged.
