My ticket story has nothing to do with my tickets.

My 18-year-old son and I were attending the May 26th show at the FleetCenter (Boston II). We stopped in at the Burger King across the street and since I was wearing my favorite denim jacket with a big 'War' patch on the back I was tapped on the shoulder by a gentleman.

'Soooo! Yer goin to the show t'night, are ye?' he asked. 'I am indeed,' I replied. 'Me and my son.' This man was from Ireland, and he and his wife had flown to Boston to see U2 for their fourth time (all the previous three shows had been in Ireland).

The young Irish couple were lovely folks, so I asked them if they'd like to eat with us. It turned out that their tickets in Section 307 were near ours in 308 for this Thursday evening show, and the man pulled out the computer page that spelled out the details. A small knot in my stomach recalled the story in that day's Boston Herald about devastated fans that were scammed out of thousands of dollars thanks to these worthless computer printout 'tickets.' I silently hoped that this lovely couple weren't about to suffer the same fate.

Anyway, we chatted and ate and enjoyed each other's company. At around 8pm the four of us walked over to the FleetCenter; I wanted to help this couple because they weren't familiar with the FleetCenter. Unknown to most is that the lowest level of the FleetCenter is actually one or two stories above street level!

Anyway, the four of us entered the arena and went up two sets of escalators before we reached the point where our tickets would be scanned. I held my breath as the Irish couple passed their computer sheets to the ticket-taker. One swipe of the bar-code reader confirmed my silent fear: the red light came on...they were worthless tickets!

Well, my son and I were devastated. These were the nicest people you could meet. My son and I vowed to stay with them and do what we could (which wasn't much). But the ticket taker then explained the reason WHY the tickets were worthless: 'These tickets were for TUESDAY!'

Well, the guy and his wife just about died right there. Sure enough, the tickets were legit alright...just 48 hours too late. And what could anyone do about such a thing? My son and I were heartbroken for these two people. We again vowed to stay and help them out, but they said, 'No...no...you go ahead and enjoy the show. We'll be OK.'

So, my son and I did enjoy the show. Arguably the best of the three Boston shows. And as we were among the 19,000 exhausted and emotionally spent fans leaving the arena, there was another tap on my shoulder. It was the wife we left behind and her husband!!! Smiles wider than the Irish sea coming from both of them.

'What happened???' I asked. 'We're thrilled to see you, but how did you get in to see the show??' The man explained that he and his wife had gone to plead their case with either FleetCenter management or U2 Management and it worked! They were escorted right to the front, where they enjoyed what most assuredly was the best U2 show that they had yet seen. Evidently it was made clear that their tickets hadn't been used two days earlier and that this was indeed an honest mistake. And kudos to the FleetCenter and U2 for making things right.

Now, my son and I would have gone home happy...but with a very sad story to tell...if it weren't for that chance meeting at the end of the show. With 19,000+ people all going in different directions, what are the chances that the four of us would meet up again?

Needless to say, this was a perfect ending to a perfect night!

Wow that's a great story Chris! I've heard of people mixing up the dates before so it would have sucked if they hadn't have worked things out. That's so good management was nice about it

yes , i agree great story. Just made the gig better knowing they got in. i,m seeing them in london, england, Cant waitx

Great Story about Irish couple....
It was nice to see your concern When my Wife and I visited last fall the people were friendly and warm
It is a small planet after all.
GOOD Going!!

Here's my story. It's not impressive, but I am lucky:

I wasn't exactly sure when U2 tickets were going on sale *is ashamed* and wasn't a member of U2.com, so I pretty much gave up any hope of going to the U2 concert until today (3rd June) when I read that there were extra tickets for 19th June @ Twickenham. I bought the ticket the moment I read that. :hyper: :combust:

[edit] By the way, this is my 1st U2 concert (I'm 20), and one of my goals while living in England for a year was to see U2 in concert before I left. I'm glad my dream will come true on the 19th. :)

You have permission to use this if you wish mkclark@gmail.com. :)

I, somewhat mistakenly, decided to go out drinking the night before the tickets went on sale. I was the only lass going out with a group of rowdy (but lovely) lads and had assigned myself with the duty of making sure I stayed relatively sober and that they all got home in one piece.

Until we started doing shots...

By 2am, I was relatively arseholed as were the lads who kept informing me that I had an appointment with Mr. Internet at 9am. A fact that the whole of Coventry and their taxi drivers knew about by the time we were all full of kebabs and tucked up in bed.

8am. I awoke, feeling like someone had dropped a brick on my head after kicking me in the stomach. I alternated between staggering and crawling towards the computer which I'd left on all night, just so nothing dreadful would happen when I tried to start it up that very important morning.

9am, the tickets went on sale and the website went decidedly tits up. I had two different sales website on the go at the one time and was desperately trying to secure any kind of seat that would get me to Cardiff for my first U2 gig. Twice, I nearly secured seats, only for the site to crash and the booking to be lost. By this point I was shaking and couldn't decide if it was dehydration or stress ... but eventually I got two seats. I was going to see U2.

It was 10am. The hangover, temporarily forgotten in the blur of websites and long-held dreams, resurfaced with a vengenance, and, being the good student that I am, school was forgotten and bed was embraced.

The moral of the story? Don't drink and surf...
