U2 Is The Hot Ticket
Updated 00:11 PST Tue, Mar 15 2005
A week ago, 33 North American dates were added to U2's tour schedule and it's no surprise that those shows are selling out as soon as tickets become available.
This past weekend, 12 of those cities went on sale resulting in an additional 23 sold out performances. In fact, demand has been so great, more shows are being added in several markets.
On March 14 in New York City, tickets quickly sold for the October 7, 8, and 10 shows at Madison Square Garden.
Sales were so brisk, an additional two concerts - October 11 and 14 - were announced and sold out immediately.
As a result, a final two performances - November 21 and 22 at Madison Square Garden - have also been confirmed. Tickets for these final two New York appearances will go on sale March 21 at 9 a.m.
In Chicago, where fans had previously purchased in excess of 76,000 tickets for four performances in May, an additional two concerts - September 20 and 21 - were also quickly scooped up.
In Boston, where U2 had sold out three May dates, an additional two performances - October 3 and 4 - were announced. When these sold out in 10 minutes, new shows for December 4 - 5 were announced and also sold out - for a total of seven Boston U2 performances in 2005.
The story was the same in Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles; new dates were added and immediately sold out.
Atlanta and Detroit each got an additional show as well. Tickets for an October 25 concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills go on sale March 18 at 10 a.m. Tickets for the final Atlanta gig (November 19) go on sale March 19 at 9 a.m.
Rounding out the weekend on-sale blitz, the U2 concerts in Tampa, Houston, Dallas and Portland, Ore., also sold out.
