Obsessed with Live U2?

I really think I am. I have only been to 5 gigs, 85-87-01 and twice this year, but I need more.

I try to explain the euphoria of the event to others and they look at me like I am a bit crazy. They don't get it. I explain how I feel, as if the boys are taking me to some place beyond this world and they laugh.

Christ, I wept during Stil Haven't Found....I felt my head nearly explode when they did Beautiful Day....I broke my adams apple during Streets....I almost passed out during Bad......etc.......

Is this healthy?

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a U2tourholic.

Anyone else have similar stories?

I'm obsessed to the point that I have dreams of future concert dates that I can attend.

I know.

I'm currently planning an Australia wide tour with what money?

Yup, that's why we're all on here.

I am trying to decide if my spring break is enough time to fly from Japan to New Zealand for a show, even though I know it's not.

I have plenty of questions, but since these issues have been brought up in countless threads I fear I will get flamed here.

Then again, I don't really care.

-Have U2 lost their spontenaity?
-Have U2 been misguided by their production team?
-Have U2 lost sight of the quality of their backlog?
-Have U2 given in to the effect of theatrics, and not to the desire to live randomly?
-Do U2 believe their fans value the same things they do creatively?
-Have U2 lost their desire to live on the edge (no pun intended)?
-Do U2 believe the LED has heightened or hampered their career?
-Do U2 beleive they can do better?
-Do U2 believe in the power of love.

Wait, I digress.

I think Bono said it best in 1989 in Dublin on New Year's Eve when he proclaimed the band had to disappear for a while and re-invent themselves.

He also said, two crap records and they are done. Well, I do not believe the last two were crap, but they ain't no Achtung Baby, or any album previous to that.

I think they need a bit of re-invention, and a new production team.

That siad, this has been a fun year of seeing them live, but do I think this tour compares to any previous tour? Not even close. I do believe Vertigo trumps Elevation, but since they are so similar to me, hell it just seems like one long tour.

I can relate but it was Elevation that turned me into a U2touraholic. That tour was like crack for me. I had seen 9 shows between 1986 and 2001. Then I saw 11 on Elevation and now 7 so far on Vertigo. If I can maintain control and not impulsively try to get to the Boston shows, it will be a total of 8 for Vertigo '05 (counting Portland closer). I keep telling myself I'm not one of those crazy people that goes to multiple shows although my friends, family and coworkers beg to differ.

must agree somewhat

It would be nice if they mixed it up a bit more on stage and break out some different songs from the older days...

or even better....so complete album tours....

Boy and October performed in it's entirety...

War and UFF performed in it's entirety....etc..etc...

that would be great...but would probably lose the newbies...

why would any band, let alone u2, play a complete album from start to finish, and not just a complete album... an old one that they're not trying to promote?

i know green day did it for american idiot but that's a bit different than going back and playing an album that's 15+ years old

Because the true fans deserve it. It also would be a great way to promote albums that many fans have not heard.

What else could they possibly do?

Think, then they can release even more tour dvd's?

md....

right now I'm so bummed out because while i have seen this band live since 83 a LITTLE AND FROM 84 ON FULL SHOWS..... I've never gotten great let alone good seats until 10/8 this year!

but after 6 hours on line yesterday rthere were no GA s and that I've had NO luck been chasing GA's since elevation.

must disagree, ou..................

I put put Dismantled either a shade below OR Standing Right Next to AB which is one of my fav albums period and my fav U2.
HTDAAB. It has alot of excellent to superb work in it. And some loevley obvious and subtle variety.

and their live show is as powerful as ever and even more so in so ways in the tighteness of live playing while still mauntaining tyhat rawish energy....the things i've always loved in R&R bands prior to u2-- Connection with the audience, excellence in playing/singing live passionately and corner with bigger world issues -- The Who, SPringsteen & PAtti Smith Band.......

u2 has equaled my 3 favoritre bands of all time.
