there were multiple JFK references today in honor of Nov 22...the last one of which was right before they did an impromptu MLK. Anyway, the ending of the show, with the Instant Karma reprise truly was bizarre, but that aside the show was great and the energy in the garden was fantastic until the somewhat of a letdown of an ending. For the record, tonight's show, clocked in at 2 hr 10 min, only 10 minutes shorter than last nights despite a significantly shorter set list. There was a ton of crowd interaction and back and forth, and Bono was just soaking up the garden energy. Overall, last night obviously kicked tonight's ass, especially when you get Bad as a closer, but I'm not complaining about tonight and was proud as hell to be there. I still was singing 40 as i left the garden, and will keep singing it till we get the boys back in nyc hopefully in 2006 (rumors of summer stadium?). Peace & Love. J

Just got back from the show... They left early because they had to haul ass. That's it. (I think it may be more than a tax problem, and in fact, a visa problem.) I also noticed the trucks were lined up before the show (about 8:15 pm), and had begun to move out by 11:45 pm. I swear, I have never seen a stage dismantled as quickly as tonight. One other tidbit... One of the light crew people (front right guy who climbs up the ladder) said that 40 was on the revised setlist (it appears that Yahweh had already been dropped because of timing issues), that Bono wanted to go back out instead of reprising IK, but someone said it was too late, and so they reprised IK. (BTW, it's true that The Edge kept playing the guitar part even though they had left the stage.) Actually, if I didn't know any better (if I didn't follow the band incessantly), I thought Instant Karma was a great closer.

I thought the show was amazing, and a very good end to the eight night run. (I was there for every night, so I have some right to say this.) Setlist-wise, though, it could have been a bit better (add The Fly and Crumbs, but subtract Stuck). There were many references to JFK. Hutchence may have died on this too, but JFK is the one people remember. (Where were you when JFK was shot? BTW, I was not even a thought in my father's mind.)

BTW, my sister and I made it into the ellipse because of the lucky leprechaun. Thanks to everyone that sent the positive vibes!!
I had tears in my eyes during WOWY (my sister's favorite song). She kept asking me during the May show, "are they gonna play WOWY?", when I knew they wouldn't. This time around, she wasn't disappointed. She ended the night by saying that Bono sings better than I do at home (I'm a Mister The Edge wannabe).

Lastly, I have video, including most of Instant Karma. (Maybe, I caught the supposed spitting episode.) I hope to have the new computer up and running by the weekend. Look for the clips sometime then!

One question, was the stream tonight better than last night?

Woohoo!!
Great that you and your sister made it into the ellipse!
:applaud:
And that she got to hear WOWY.
:giggle: about her comment that Bono sings better than you.
I think I heard you during MW on the stream tonight.
And it didn't sound bad at all.

I wasn't on the stream yesterday, but what I heard today was nice!
Very clear at times.
So I already thought you were close to the stage.
Thanks again for streaming.
Especially from the ellipse.
Since that seems like more of a hassle.
Where on earth did you have the phone?

As for the hauling ass, I doubt this has to do with a visa problem.
You can stay in the US on a tourist VISA (with a waiver) for 90 days.
I don't think 90 days have past since the beginning of the 3rd leg.
But what do I know about it.

I find it very interesting though.

what a crock of shit tonight....esally...everyone got fucked tonight....te people standing in the rain for tickets all day. What a sad ass setlist...Im sorry...Im being brutal...but how fucking cruel

:madspit:

It was a fantastic show!!!!
I'm no new fan. i've been seeing them live since 83/84 and been a fan since 80/81.
they were very energetic, E & A doing alot of ellipse walking.........
there was alot of interact6ion with the audience.....

the weaving in and out and not just end snipping of When Johnny comes marching home again With BTBS and Rock the casbash with SBS was some of the most POWERFUL perfomances I've ever seen them do. E was particularly "on fire" during those and UTEOTW and prob a few more.....can't remember. right now.

I wish I had been able to go to so many shows to then be ABLE "complain".

DOn't get me totally wrong.............i love Bruce & ES many change ups! I've sen him & E ST in the smaller theaters here in nyc in 76 & 78-- the Palladium/former Academy of Music, and have seen him further through the decades.

but i did hear U2 do some difference things each of the times I went to MSG......once in May, once in Oct & tonight!
AND WAS VERY GRATEFUL to here certain songs either played all three or twice of the times I was there!

The show was aseome. Until the End of the World made my night!!! The lights and energy, and the was Edge was running from Bono was just awesome. I wish they would have recorded a later show for the DVD because they have come such a long way from the first leg. I am so happy I saw them in NYC even though the closer was a bit of a head scratcher. They might have intended that to be the closer but it didnt work on the crowd as 40 would for example with the singing or bad. Who knows though? Overall great show and I believe my last show. Oh well. 6 shows was a good ride....till next time!

Hi one4u2... here birthday wishes are in order?

The reason they shorted the show was because they had to be out of the STATES by 12:00. That is why they started early and they left before the lights came up which they normally don't do at MSG.

so why did they leave after instant karma, escorting patti smith off stage, then come back and do one more verse?

did they look at their watches and say, hell we've got 2 more minutes to spare?

something is a little fishy about that.

maybe they had to talk about how they were going to end it? maybe bono wanted to do '40', but the rest of the band wanted to cut it? i don't know... but just to clarify, Patti came back out with the rest of the band to do the final verse.

i was second row in front of adam, and didn't notice anything wrong with her... but who knows.

Why is that? I doubt anyone would have given them trouble if they actually stayed in until 1215? I dont know.

Kinda weird how they raced out of there like bank robbers and about Patti Smith......well it's Patti Smith so what did you expect.

They had to leave for tax reasons I was informed by a person who is in the business and it was confirmed by the NYPD outside the arena who said they had to catch a flight to Canada tonight directly after the show.

If you saw Bono and Patti on stage during Instant Karma the two of them were walking around looking a little confused and then Bono walked off stage with her. Same thing when they came back out. Maybe they came out to trick the audience into staying (while they left) thinking they would come back out.

EDGE did stop outside TUES NIght . I' d just missed him aby a few mins or so-- but i had met him 2 x s in oct  !! so that was alright......
but ran into 4 ECSTATIC FANS who had there various shirts, jackets signed!!! i t was wonderful to see/feel their happy vibes!!!!
