Melbourne 2 - Set List and Watch Party

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Awesome show, and it brings my run of 5 shows to an end, Bris, Syd II, Syd III, Melb I, Melb II

As soon as Kite finished I looked for some more "on-stage" activity and saw guitars coming out, and when i noticed Edge wasnt handed the Bass it wasnt going to be 40, so immediately I was 99% sure it was BAD (due to them rehearsing it in Sydney) and it was! Bono's voice just amazes me - he hit every note and the crowd participation and appreciation just went off

Every show I saw had it amazing moment - thanks U2 for the memories - and thanks to the U2 fans for the energy :)

And I apologise now for anyone standing behind me at the shows - i'm 6'5 - sorry!

I'm with ya buddy - I'm 6'4" and felt guilty the whole time.

Lotsa jokes by short folks saying they should be entitled to go ahead of us.

Next time I am wearing a t-shirt offering shoulder-rides for $20 per song. $50 for during Streets.

just heard from my friend's daughter in Australia. Apparently this is her dad filming, right to the right of Adam! Very cool!

Just got home, after the flight from hell from Melb, and I have to agree Melb II was prettyfuckingspectacular! Was in GA next to the lighting desk with a great view of the staging, but close enough to see the band. When I heard the beginning of First Time I'm sure I squealed to everyone around me, and hearing those first notes of Bad  I knew something was up, Bono had a cheeky grin on his face for the whole encore  They just seemed to enjoy themselves so much, it was so brilliant to watch. Edge's "Sydney" gaffe was worth it just to see Larry cack himself

After the show, Reptile and I were in search of a drink or three and ended up in a pub near the Dome seeing "The Australian U2 show". We had moved into a parallel universe  but it all makes sense when you're :drunk:

Am i the only one who thinks the whole 'thank you sydney' was on purpose?!

I think it was a joke to just test the crowd. Adam and Larry were pissing themselves, and edge was chuckling as well

The Edge doesn't know where he is as he is on his blueberry most of the time, emailing his sick daughter. He looks up and he is in Brissyu, he looks up he is in Sydney, he looks up he is in Adeliade, he looks up he is in Melbuorne. It would all wiz past him.

I dont know if its been mentioned, but the thankyou Sydney was because Larry wrote Sydney on Edge's setlist as a joke to test him.

Just out of interest, how do you know this. That is pretty funny!!

I was there. :-D

I'm embarrassed to admit I thought it was Bono who said "Thank you Sydney", but then I was on Edge's B-stage and not looking in the right direction when it happened, and I've always thought Edge's voice sounds a bit like Bono's.
But whoever said it, I was sure it was a joke, and we were all joke-boo-ing back... it was funny, whichever way it happened.

I want a boot of that show (and Saturday, which was my first U2 show!) so badly..... Best night ever. Even after a seagull crapped right in my eye from 200 meters up. :)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what happened to the kite? It didn't clear the roof and someone in GA pulled it down....

Alison :D

......it was Bono that said it...i saw him move to the mic. and say it...edge then moved in to the mic to tidy things up for Bono as the booing was getting quite loud!!....Bono had the cheekiest look on his face.......

LOL! I didn't know that stuff really happened.

I'm sure the Sydney gag was on purpose as it was just a little joke to test the crowd. Typical Irish humour.

I went to both Melbourne shows flying over from Perth and they were fantastic nights. The whole trip was fantastic.

Thank you U2!

No, it was Edge! And I've never seen Larry laugh so much!

I was only three from the front, right in front of Bono for the show and I swear I was the only one cheering when Edge said that 'cause I'm from Sydney!!

We love the rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne, so to hear Edge stir that up a bit (albeit a mistake!) was gold!!

Did anyone here see the fake Bono just before the show started? (on the walkway into the eclipse thing area) I remember everybody screaming and getting their phones out, so I followed suit. Then I noticed as he was walking away he had hair around his hat, I come to the conclusion that he was not Bono:eeklaugh: . But he looked exactly like him from a distance..

I don't mean to be rude, but god, that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time

Me too, I definately saw and heard the Edge saying the Sydney thing  God it was funny :lmao:

We got front row right near the right circle and that guy was directly opposite.

He had the same jacket and everything!

We went to The Australian U2 Experience after and the lead singer of that looked exactly like that guy in the crowd so does anyone know if it was him?

Yeah I don't think it was Gary as he cut his hair i think? (the "bono" of the australian u2 show) but we saw him, i thought he looked like say bono's brother but then we thought why would bono's brother be wearing a vertigo t-shirt and also be dressed like bono. hahahahah

We saw Bono's daughters though! Well i think tey were them, walking through the ellipse with that bald secuirty guard

Haha, how hilarious was it. :madspit:

The "Bono" at that show went on the same rants the real Bono does and the first 5-6 songs were to the exact setlist of U2 that night!

I went to order some pints and "Bono" gets up on the bar table. Nearly knocked the beers over! Tony Liberatore was there that night as well and posed for photos.

Was a great night...from what I remember!
