Looking back... Was Milan the right choice for the DVD?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

well considering the milan picture was taken before the concert, i think its unfair to compare

Well, I don't think Amsterdam looks that impressive either...

:shrug:

Were all those seats sold out though?

If so, then that would look very impressive.

:hmm: true.
but the second picture looks :drool: nonetheless! :D

now I'd hate to start another discussion but... did you see the Olympic stadium in Rome?? ...Now, THAT you can compare to the second one...

Holy crap. Now that looks ridiculously cool.

When they have the stage at the end of the stadium like that it just looks like there are sooooo many more people there. When it's facing a grandstand, like in Milan, for some reason it doesn't look like there is as many people.

Yes, this is just hilarious. Comparing concerts from a few photos doesnt make any sense at all, especially when you choose your pics so that one is from the concert and one from before its starts.

Milan 1 & 2 were unbelieveable nights, it will be a great dvd Im sure. No stupid picture comparisons will change that.

Yes, I have no doubt about that. But can you not see how when the stage as at one end of a stadium the crowd looks much more impressive than when the stage is facing a grandstand?

Who remembers Where the Streets Have No Name on the Rattle and Hum DVD when they turned on all the lights to see the crowd? It was amazing because there were so many people. With the Milan configuration you don't get the same affect.

No, I don't agree. I can only judge from the gigs I went to and believe me, the San Siro will look impressive no matter where the stage was placed.

Holland has 15.000.000 inhabitants :madspit: :wink:

Neilz, if you knew just a bit of geography you wouldn't do such an observation... :eyebrow: Italy is loooong, you know?
Milan = extreme north
Rome = south
just because we're 60.000 people here, it's much more hard for us to move around Italy to follow them... you've got THREE dates in the same venue... how can you compare?!?! I had to go to Milan first, 4h30 by train, then move to Rome, SEVENhours by train... not EVERYBODY would do that.

oh and btw, I loved the way they placed the stage in Milan, facing the grandstand: it was much more intimate and personal.
I didn't like Rome in that sense... too far from the grandstands.

Well like I said, if I was at the concert I would definitely prefer the Milan setup. But for the visual aspect of a DVD, the Rome show would have looked ridiculously good. That picture you posted is now my desktop background. :)

well I don't think it would be wise to choose judging only by the visual aspect... If I had to choose between Milan and Rome (and I've seen both), I'd definitely go for Milan :up:
and I'm happy Bono wanted SanSiro for the dvd. yay for him!! :wink:

It's amazing what you're doing with the pictures neilz *coughpropagandacough*... but I wont let you do it to Milan, sorry.

I only like this one really... Willie has an eye for this... The roof does look good with the stage indeed!.... The rest isn't better than my Amsterdam pictures though... :madspit: :wink:
