Zespół zagrał swoje największe przeboje z całej ponad 20-letniej kariery, m.in. inspirowany wprowadzeniem stanu wojennego w Polsce utwór "New Year's Day".

Promują podczas niej swój ostatni album "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", który kupiło już ponad 10 milionów fanów.

Olbrzymia scena, w jej centrum zestaw perkusyjny. Prócz głosów polskich słychać Czechów, Słowaków, Węgrów, Niemców i Rosjan.

Zgodnie z zapowiedziami o godzinie 18.30 na scenę wszedł brytyjski kwartet The Magic Numbers. Pierwszą płytę wydali kilka tygodni temu i poza rodzimą Anglią, gdzie robią dużą karierę, mało kto ich zna. W Polsce ich album słyszało pewnie kilkaset osób. Mimo to łagodna, folkrockowa muzyka w hipisowskim stylu rozkołysała publiczność.

Jako drugi support zagrała amerykańska grupa The Killers.

Zaraz po "Vertigo" zagrali "I Will Follow" i "Electric Co." z pierwszej płyty.

Wielki, rewelacyjny show. Gdy zaczęli grać słynny, inspirowany wprowadzeniem w Polsce stanu wojennego "New Year's Day", fani na płycie stadionu podnieśli w górę czerwone chusty, a ci na trybunach rzeczy białe. Potem zagrali kolejne wielkie przeboje - "Beautiful Day" i "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".

Wild horses (I suspect they actually think that's what the song is called)
Love and peace

Wild horses debutet in London...
Cry/Electric Co (In London....Cry was never played since "Gelsenkirchen"...)

My point:
And wrong setlists ALL the time!

the article up there says that during New Years Day Bono put on a red-white waistcoat and was really moved when he thanked the crowd

Just got back from the show... (F.U. to the one who said it's boring setlist)

some things (maybe) interesting for you:

- The magic Numbers - rain after 3rd song
- The Killers - Rain all the time
- but when U2 is on stage there's not a single drop... :hmm: maybe there's something in all those jokes about Bono and God after all... :)
- this wite and red flag worked very well (look here if you don't know what I'm talking about http://forum.interference.com/t130936.html)... during NYD people on GA started waving with (various) red things and people on grandstand with white... creating (from the bands point of view) a Polish flag... can't wait to see the pictures:drool:
The band were really... REAAALLY surprised... they were smiling and looking at us, not just "performing" as they usualy do... Bono gave us a bow and bravo for us at the end of the song.
- during BD Bono changed the words to: "see the Polish flag right in front of you"...
- PLEBA moment during AIWIY... Bono takes a girl on stage
- a story about a man who stole Bono's sunglases but gave him a rosary, before MD...
- Bono takes a Polish "Solidarnosc" (Solidarity) banner and it remains on the stage to the end of the show
- Bono also said that Poland and Ireland have many in common and we should stick together:wink:

I'll probably be able to tell more after some sleep...

Yes, it's a boring setlist for a setlist party... but it was far from boring live... ask anyone out of 70 000 people that saw it...

Chorzow, Poland - Some 70,000 fans of Irish rock band U2 waved shirts, scarves and handkerchiefs to compose a massive red-and-white Polish national flag to U2's "New Year's Day," an anthem inspired partly by Poland's Solidarity struggle against communism.

Fresh from the weekend's "Make Poverty History" Live 8 concert event, the band led by singer and anti-poverty activist Bono performed in Poland's southern Chorzow city stadium Tuesday night. U2 is currently touring with material from their newest album, Vertigo [sic].

Fans on the stadium pitch waved red items, while those sitting in the bleachers brandished white during the Cold-War era song.

Ever the showman, Bono also underscored the Polish inspiration for the song's lyrics by showing the red lining of his jacket and bowing deeply to the audience as he sang.

"New Year's Day" appeared on U2's 1983 breakthrough album War. According to Bono, the song's lyrics were inspired in part by the Polish communist regime's brutal crackdown in December 1981 on the freedom-fighting Solidarity trade union and its underground struggle, unprecedented at the time in the Soviet-dominated Eastern Bloc.

The idea to underscore the Polish inspiration for the U2 classic arose from and was organized among the band's Polish fans on the Internet and was then relayed by the Polish media prior to the concert.

Looks like the flag thing was a great success, congratulations

From u2.com:

As Willie Williams, U2’s Show Designer notes in his latest tour diary, it was ‘wonderful humbling and thrilling.’

‘The best moment was going into New Year’s Day where the audience, entirely of their own volition, produced flags and scarves. Everyone on the floor of the stadium had red, everyone in the grandstands had white, so the whole stadium turned into a huge Polish flag.'

‘ I have never seen an audience do anything like it before – getting it together to surprise and delight us. I think my mouth must have fallen open. Who organized this? The fact that it was premeditated made it all the more extraordinary; an audience consciously plotting to put on a show for the performers. It was absolutely wonderful, humbling, thrilling all at the same time. A great, great crowd, and a unique atmosphere.'

It was my first u2 show. Can't really put it in the words right now, but indeed 'a great crowd and a unique atmosphere', truly unique.
