I was talking to a friend of mine about the recent events surrounding the U2 shows. She is a HUGE fan of Bruce Springsteen and proceeded to tell me that he (and sevral large acts out there) dedicates the first seventeen rows and GA pit of his concerts to fans only. No sponsors, Ticketmaster, etc..., just FANS up front. I'm not a huge Boss fan and I don't have all the minor details on exactly how (or if) they pull this off (if anyone knows please post), but why couldn't U2 do something a bit more like this?...

Yeah, thats a realy pity... mayb what the should do is say the area near to the stage (inside the heart in elevation) just reserved for fans? I kno this guy who saw u2 at slane, hates them shouted "Bono, I hope you die" and then left. what a spa.

I dont know about his older tours, but this last tour the floor was GA, just like U2. There was a line to be in the first 300 or so to get in the front. It was just like U2, but instead of a heart, there was just a barrier between.

In the 1999 tour floor rows 2 to 17 were sold through ticketmaster and were will call only. At will call, you were given a wrist band and escorted to your seats. This system made scalping useless and there was essentially no secondary market for great floor seats. The front row was randomly selected by a roadie from fans in the worst seats in the building.
In the 2002 arena tour Springsteen copied U2 as sindaddy stated.
Springsteen has never had a fan club.

The Pearl Jam ten club is great. I used to be a member. However, Propaganda was outstanding. Despite unbelievable demand, they always took care of us. It kind of gave you a warm special feeling about U2. The latest fiasco has had the opposite effect.

I still don't think the band of 4 is at fault, except for giving the fifth corporate member free-reign to run all of this. Paul used to be GREAT in taking care of the fans. Now I think he is just trying to maximize revenue.
