I'm wondering how the view from GA is at the UC this tour?

I was at the Elevation Tour at the UC in 2001 and didn't get to the show until about 7pm. Stood by the sound booth and had a great view of the stage. I will not be getting into the show until about 6pm this time, so I'm wondering if I'll find the floor similar to the Elevation tour?

Do you think they are selling more GA tickets this tour than Elevation? Has the entire floor been full for the first 2 Chicago shows?

Thanks for any insight.

I had GA last night. I was 4 people back outside the Ellipse dead center. I am almost 6'2 and had a great view. My sister is 5'7 and could see fine. Hopefully you are either tall or get a great spot, not stuck behind a tall person! I don't know how it is farther back. It was packed behind me but it wasn't a gigantic area. It did get really hot in there and my sister passed out! I was getting quite sweaty. If you're worried I would either be up against the rail or on the edges. It looked like even people who had seats on the side were "right there" - great view.
Adam walked around a few times and stopped right in front of us for a little bit - he was literally not 10 feet from us. Bono was there quite a bit and Larry a few times. It was amazing to see them so close. I'd say if you are a few people back from the Ellipse you have a great view and the stage isn't too far away. Edge stayed put on the left side of the stage and seemed pretty far away. I thought the view was good.
We waited outside starting @ 11 AM and were about 255 in line. They split the line in two - one line was U2.com members. I think this was around 5 or so??? We were in the U2.com line - it didn't matter if you were a U2.com member - they just wanted the people to get in faster. Both lines were let in @ the same time - ea side had a wristbanding table. They stick a wristband on your right arm, then you walk to the end of the table and a guy scans your ticket. If the screen says "Proceed to Floor" you go to the right and walk to section I think it's 109-110 and you're on the floor outside the Ellipse. If it comes up Vertigo Vertigo Vertigo you get another wristband I think to the left and go to he Ellipse. Really, I wasn't disappointed to be right outside the Ellipse. We had paper tickets from online (emailed) and I don't know if they scan as well - the guy scanned mine twice...I told him to put it flat on the table but he ignored me. Then he hit the enter button on his laptop and said "Nope" - I really think we never got officially scanned but whatever.
They opened with COBL which sounded fantastic and was full of energy. There was tons of confetti falling from above. Not sure if they'll do the same set tonight. They filmed last night. If you want bring a camera or cellphone w/camera b/c you'll get great photos
If you have your cell there's a # to text during the show and your name might scroll across the screen soon after.
We got to the UC before their parking lot opened so we parked in a parking garage across from an Italian sports bar/restaurant for $8.00 for 12 hrs - good deal! There were only a few cars in there the whole night and it seemed very safe. I forgot what street it was but if you walk from the back of the UC (back sidewalk) up a few blocks (you'll see the front of Malcolm X College on your right a block away) and turn right @ the streetlight then left when you see the Italian place it is right there on your left. It might even be on the same street as the college.
So - you'd be walking towards 94 @ first. Some people that were there really early parked on a side street then moved their cars to a UC parking lot when they opened (only one opens after noon supposedly). I think the UC parking is $15-$20. It was nice to pay only $8 and be only one of maybe 10 cars in the garage. People said you can park near the Billy Goat Tavern nearby - the lot wasn't too big though. I heard it's good food.
Have fun!!!!!

I don't know about the GA ticket total, but there was a little room in the Ellipse - not tons, but they definitely had more breathing space than we did. Again, if you are short and don't think you can handle all the body heat I wouldn't get stuck deep in the outside GA area. I was feeling a little overheated near the end of the show and thought I might have to go to the side rail to get air and I'm pretty tall. People said if you can get up close to the Ellipse on the side rails that's a good spot. Also, if you bring in a lot of water that's good - but once I got my wristband I didn't want to try fighting my way back to the front!
I have also heard that standing by the soundboard is a good spot.

I think the number of people allowed on the floor is probably the same as Elevation (it looks the same to me anyway), I'm sure they're selling as many floor spots as they legally can and I'm sure that hasn't changed since 2001.

I had my first GA in Chicago for this tour on Monday night and got there about fifteen minutes before U2 came on (about 8:45). I ended up being about 20 feet from the tip of the ellipse, but then I thought I'd see how the back of the floor was. NICE! I'd never been near the back in GA and it was great! Tons of space (you could literally lay down flat on the floor and no one would fall over you!), cool temperature and a better view of the show (it seems like unless you're within a few feet of the stage, the view in the back was far better!). To make it short and sweet, basically the GA setup is a carbon copy of the last tour...

I was four people back from the tip of the ellipse on Saturday night. It was *very* crowded at the start and during Kings of Leon, but once U2 took the stage, things opened up more. I could dance and jump around and not worry about bumping the people around me. The view was okay...I'm short, and there were two tall people in front of me...but I could find gaps between heads most of the time and see all right. I would say if you are short or with someone short that any further back than four or five people and you won't get to see much, if anything at all, and you'll have to rely on the screens overhead.

There were three girls who must have been just over five feet tall who for whatever reason parked themselves behind me and my brother (we're both a bit over six feet) well before the show started. I felt bad for them, but if I have to move for everyone behind me who's shorter...I'll find myself having a nice chat with WW instead of being three people off the rail.

I was in the ellipse and surprised to see how much room there was!! I think they could have put a lot more in last night

Miroslava, I saw you glancing back from time to time to see if my mom and I could see okay...thank you for thinking of us.

You guys were fine... I was leaning over to the dude to my left and neutral was leaning right (not counting the AB songs, I freaked out with those)...

I am just bitter cause I had a lil encounter with the lady next to you guys the next day where she said... "oh, you were at the show in front of us" or something like that and told me "see! you're tall!" which combined with the elbowing that she kept giving neutral through out the night and he accusatory tone did not make me very happy.

I asked her what time she got there. She said 12:30 to which my response was "see, I got there at 7:30" and left it at that...

There is a very distinct possibility that she is an interferencer, so I probably should not be bitching about it but

My bottom line is this... I will never purposely block someone's view or hurt anyone's experience. If someone had been in front of me at the GA line and somehow got stuck behind me once on the floor, I would let them stand in front of me if they were significantly shorter...

But other than that, it just gets impossible... :(

Yeah you get what you get. I am really tall and I can't get long enough sleeves and pants at regular stores, plus I can't fit in a lot of cars (legroom)...so everything balances out...

I felt bad for short people behind me but what can you do - I paid to go too and waited all day in the crazy wind. I tried to stay more to one side so a short guy behind me could see better.

Being 5'8" plus wearing 1.5" heels in Phoenix and Denver I was completely guilt-ridden druing the whole show about the short people behind me. I really felt I had paid my dues and deserved my spot on the rail and like you say, if you start moving for the short people it becomes endless. In Denver the woman behind me was really short and I thought there was no way she could see over me and I felt terrible but when I considered the fact that I'd been there since 7AM and she only arrived at 1:30, there was just no way I was giving up my spot for her (although finally the guilt got to me and I let her in front of me for the last couple of songs and still felt bad that that wasn't good enough.)

Interestingly and weirdly....over the weekend at the Springsteen show, I spotted the very same woman across the aisle from me and she and her husband were sitting in seats that weren't theirs, which was clear from the security people escorting them back to their proper seats when the seats' rightful owners showed up. When the woman got up to leave she was so drunk she almost fell over and her husband had to practically carry her. This was during the 3rd song of the evening. I took the opportunity to then feel justified in not having given her my spot at the U2 show...I figured if you're stupid and rude enough to be drunk before a very classy Springsteen show even starts, and to steal other people's seats, then there is no way you deserved to have been on the rail 2 weeks earlier at U2.

Long boring story. Sorrry.

I think I know who you mean...the one person in GA who was shorter than me.

I'm sorry you had to hear that.
