We've been experimenting with streaming live audio from concerts via mobile phones and I thought a thread comparing seating location, phone types, and the like would be valuable for later streams. So if you have already done a stream(s), please answer the following questions.

1. What show(s) did you attend?
2. Where were you seated?
3. What type of phone did you use?
4. How did you position the phone, where was it placed?
5. What was the general consensus of the sound quality?

Hopefully the answers will be valuable in planning future audio streams. Thank you for your time, and thank you very much for all your effort to bring these shows to us! :)

Has Gorman and the person with the phone experimented with the volume setting on the phone. If the quality is suffereing, maybe they should adjust it. It seems that could maybe have an impact on the stream quality.

Not sure about quality as I have not heard my streams. From the comments I've read it's ranged between the beehive/underwater sound, has suffered from unexpected volume increases (I think this might have something to do with when I check to make sure the call has not disconnected), to just ok. I think the quality part should be answered by the listeners not the streamers.

It's important to also list the wireless carrier....

1. October 22nd - Pittsburgh
2. GA-Floor 10 feet right of tip on outside rail directly under right stack
3. Motorola e815
4. Speakerphone 'On'; shirt pocket first half; in hand 2nd half of show - is a flip phone, so I had phone closed w/ speakerphone on
5. Fishbowl/muffled sound... :(
6. Verizon Wireless is the carrier

A headset would definitely help. Other than that, having a higher-end phone (such as rose's Blackberry) produce pretty good sound quality as well. Although, (as chrisedge's phone proved) even with a higher-end phone, if you're not in a good spot in the arena, the sound will be poor.

rose: the audio from your phone was very listenable. There was very little underwater-ness to it :)

By the way, a huge thanks to everyone that has helped out with this thus far. Regardless of the quality, everyone has really appreciated what you've done!

Here's hoping it continues!

Well, I can bring a headset to Portland... :)

What would be killer is a webcam, a Sony Picturebook, and a Verzion Broadband Wireless Modem. :)

Then broadcast video. :)

they already have wifi digital cameras, couldn't we just stream from 'movie mode'? I say a wifi digital camera and a battery pack should do the trick!
