Hey all,

Got this from a review on U2tours.com:

Review by: Shawn Bison

Well, as luck would have it, I met Bono walking on the streets of Glasgow today. It was seven hours before showtime and I guess he was out to clear his head or something. I've met him twice before, but under rushed circumstances (there were other fans around, he had to go, etc.). He was by himself, per usual - as the ultrafan would liken - and welcomed me with a smile. He didn't remember me, but I had a few questions prepared in case I bumped into him on this leg. My burning question was "Crumbs" and why they have not yet played it. He informed me that they want to get it perfect before debuting it, because it's the most important song he's ever written. He also wants to possibly wait to debut it at Live 8. I complimented him on the band's performances and such and we even joked about the prospect of performing alongside members of the reunited Pink Floyd, saying "you'd have a better chance of seeing Syd Barrett up there with them than me."

Cheers!

yes Bono says a lot of things, I pretty much disregard anything after the words "Bono says"

I like how on the promo DVD Bono said Crumbs was the only song they've ever written while drunk, and now it's the most important song he's ever written.

I've always believed Bono was a bit ADDHD. Don't care... love him anyway. He's got so much on his plate I can overlook some of the off remarks he makes.
Then again he's not that different than some people I know, myself included. I forget shit all the time. Like what forum am I currently in..
Whatever.. if they play Crumbs at Live 8. I won't forget it. ever!!

Yeah, he must be off his rocker, I thought the most important song they wrote was Vertigo, the second time.

Crumbs would be a good choice given the lyrics and all. Does anyone know where in the line-up U2 fits in? I'm going to be out of town and want to set my VCR to the right timeframe for taping. Thanks!

U2's going to be on early in the London lineup (maybe even first) because they have the Vienna gig that night. So, they won't be on live on TV in the U.S. anyway because that won't start til later...so since they're not live, it could be at any point in the MTV/VH1 coverage, I reckon. Get a tape that goes 8-9 hours on EP/SLP (I'm gonna have to do the same since I will actually be at London Live 8...)

I thought the exact same thing when I read the post.
Bono says things that are real head scratchers sometimes.

Thanks for the info. Have a great time. I'm soooo jealous

you really think they'd play a song they have never played before at live 8? don't you reckon the world wants to hear their best and most famous stuff?

Wait. Bono sometimes says things that might not come to fruition, or are a bit of hyperbole? Wow, who knew?

It keeps fans on their toes, guessing what's real and what's just Bono being Bono. For shit's sake, his name is Bono, so you know you're not dealing with normalcy here.

:)

Maybe it could be both...:hmm:

Thanks for the info.

I really do hope that they play "Crumbs" at Live8 - it would a totally appropriate place to premier it.

And whether it was written while they were drunk or not, it IS one of the most important songs that U2 has ever done.

I think Bono means business this time. I think they will play Crumbs at Live8. Don't know if they will debute it there but it would be great if they did so and it would be perfect if they pulled off a gret version of it.

well it could be....the music might have been done while severely hammered (hammertime...sorry can't help myself:wink: ) lyrics may have come later which may be why Bono considers it important...otherwise if he did the lyrics while drunk i imagine we would have got those weird whooping noises he made in the Achtung Baby outtakes...which may have been interesting;)

From www.atu2.com, in fact I'm surprised nobody's talking about this

NEW @U2 LIVE 8 SPOILER?

Neil McCormick, U2's longtime friend who's working on the official U2 by U2 book and has already published his own Killing Bono: I Was Bono's Doppelganger book, seems to drop a couple spoilers in a recent article he penned for the U.K. magazine New Statesman. McCormick affirms previous rumors that the show will open with U2 and Paul McCartney performing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and that U2 alone will follow that with "Beautiful Day."
