How awesome

thats like my 10 yo son - he does perfect 'air' versions of Vertigo, All Because of You and Sometimes...complete with guitar nuances and everything..lol...

and because his hearing is better than mine, when we're in shopping malls and stores he's the first to pick up U2 on the overhead speakers...people always stare cause he's like 'Dad! U2 is playing!'

He was SO in awe of Edge when I took him to see U2 in Toronto...plus Bono signed his ONE shirt, he was so thrilled..

Oops sorry...you got me going on kids...could talk about them endlessly :D :D

No apology necessary, kids a great....but wait til that first grandkid...it's like nothing you've ever felt.....but back on the subject.....How awesome is it that we have U2 to share with our kids and grandkids. Don't get me wrong....for a grandma, I like some pretty radical music (Limp B., Cold Play, Usher, Snoop) but U2 just hangs on to you like a hug from your baby.....

Damn, see...you got me started...:blahblah:

 short granny's

Know what you mean about being a 'cool parent' tho - I must be the youngest dad in my son's class and all his sports teams...and I dont wear polo shirts golf slacks and such...so they're always looking at me weird...when I pick him up I've always got some cool music blaring...all his friends are like 'THATS your dad??' LOL

but the funniest was last night, we were looking at running shoes online and we came across the "Ice Cream Pharrells" - all the rage now..I personally couldn't be caught dead in them...anyways Anthony was like "Dad get a pair, you show up at my school with those on and everybody will think youre the coolest da......oh - wait - you ARE the coolest Dad in my school"

I coulda kissed him there...if he would let me LOL

Check you out! Not only are you a cool dad....your a sentimental one too! Not too many of you out there. Bono would be damn proud. Nevermind that your attracted to short grannys too!

So how did he do at the Toronto concert? I'm thinkin Zoe needs to be at leat 7 or 8 before I could take her.

He did ok, we were one person back just to the left of Bono on the outside rail....we had a couple of bad experiences that upset him with people pushing etc...but overall he enjoyed it and was happy he went..

I think next time if we dont get into the ellipse, however, we will hang out by the soundboard or get some 100 level seats...he's built more like a 12 year old but standing up in one place (literally, you couldnt move) for 3 hours after waiting all day in line was a bit much for him..

For that matter, it was a bit much for me too! Unless I get into the ellipse now, I find a place on the floor thats comfortably populated and with decent people around..

My daughter is 6...I dont know about that young...I figured 10 was a good age, dont know why really...plus this tour he expressed an interest in going...then of course his sister got mad the next day when she found out lol  cant win :S

Thanks

You're right, I think I'll let her mother take her. The joke at our house is that my daughter is taking me to see U2. They keep reminding her to put new rubbers on my walker.....brats! I'll show them:tongue:

I'm keeping your advice in mind for myself as well. Then again at my age, being packed in like sardines might mean extra physical support.....(hmmmmm...now where are my orthopedic tennies????)

That'ts what I'm talking about

Cool dads - Awesome

Tall guys who like Bono's gear - if I was twenty years younger....ooh baby!

U2 show in less than a week - PRICELESS!!

(You all are so great...you make this old girl feel like a trippin maniac again!)

Damn! I missed this call!

Hi this is Kelly calling from the palace of auburn hills regarding your call and the U2 line. Just to let you know the only decision that has been made at this time is that the line and the parking lot will open at 2:00 in the afternoon. Past that we really haven’t worked out any details with their people and how they want to operate this and what they’re doing. So as it gets closer we’ll be in more contact with their tour promoter and we’ll have more information. So, you’ll need to check back. I would say probably… you know… next... you know Friday. Probably on Friday call we should have more information at that time.

Clear Channel

Clear Channel

How informative. Sounds like you wouldn't have gotten much out of her even if you'd caught the call.

As a mature and wise U2 fan, I'd say........if they ain't got the rules figured out.....MAKE YOUR OWN!

Is it a wonder that my kids didn't all end up in Jail?:shame:

No, but I could have told her HOW it works, and to expect the 2 lines, and the fan numbering system and :blahblah:

And I would have asked her for a badge and a stun gun... :shifty:

True

This is true. So how does it work? I'm sitting here in a completely empty quiet office...I can just keep calling. I can be quite convincing when the need arises.

Well, call again and:

1. Ask her for a Badge and a stun gun for Miroslava. Explain to her I am 5'10", I kickbox, have a Mexican hot temper and I can assist with line enforcement.

2. Explain to her that usually a group of about 20-50 people like to camp overnight, and are VERY respectful of the private property and are usually the venue's best allies in keeping the line organized and civilized... Those early fans usually set up a numbering system to keep track of the order in which people belong and provide information to those people less familiar with the set up.

3. Sometime during the day (the earlier THE BETTER) The line gets split up into 2 lines. Fan line vs. regular line. People holding General Admission tickets with the "FAN" designation have the choice to move to that line as do those people with their fan club credentials (even if their tickets do not say FAN). Both lines get to go in at the same time.

4. Concerning the liability waivers. No other venue has made GA guests sign this, but if this is indeed a necessity, it would be GREAT to be able to distribute this AHEAD of time so people can fill them and turn them in duly executed at the same time their tickets are getting scanned.

5. Ask them for a stun gun for me! :shifty:

:lmao:

You forgot to add:

Multiple lines should be created for U2.com fan members firstly. Under no circumstances should the non-fan-club line be permitted to move thru the gates at a higher rate of speed than the fan club line. ie Toronto.

Sounds like a plan

Very impressive! I can handle it!

FAN credentials include what? A U2 tattoo, or does my official U2 membership card work?

I'm getting more pumped up...I may just sleep with the stars afterall.....

Yup, the weapon-y looking "key-chain" works

And the Toronto 4 Fan Line SUCKED! That dude was REALLY checking people, whereas the non Fan line dude wasn't!

We'll show em

I hope it's a greasy little boy that I can't slap some "don't treat yo mamma that way" on.......

I don't think my daughter is an official fan....that's gonna be a problem or am I gonna have to do some silly slappin?

(I'm really a very peace loving little old lady)

WHOA! I just had a nice little go round with Trish at the Palace......whatta bioche!

Sorry, but I didn't get to far except totally fired up. To make a long story short she said policy has not be confirmed to date and that I need to check back.........I said "in reference to "policy" the policy is and always has been at any venue for U2" and then I spewed your instructions and also indicated this would make for an incredibly controlled and cooperative atmosphere among the fans

I was told "you aren't in any postion to make any policy, and I can promise you that the atmosphere will remain controlled and cooperative or security will see to it that any perpetrators of chaos will be physically escorted off the premises.............

My reply.......excuse me, but as a ticket purchaser for this event I am a "customer" and you are "customer service" so it's your job to make ME happy and right now I'm not terribly happy with your tone of voice or the Palaces lack of information regarding my comfort for this event...............

she hung up on me.....

I tried (deep breath)

What a damn skank!

Great, some drunken idiots cause chaos at the Palace during a basketball game and now we're paying for this?

Assmunches

Sorry

Not to criticize...but her back likely went up when she heard 'the policy is and has always been for any venue of U2'.....because to be honest, I don't think any of them have any standard policy beyond what they do for normal events...usually the day of the event (or first day in mulitple show cases) you can see security conferring about what is going to go down.

Actually, I believe it is policy for them to *not pay attention to any fan organized numbering system, but as Miroslava says, if fans present themselves in an orderly fashion on the day of, it is easier for them to go along with it (provided its fair) than to stand there arguing with 50+ tired and cranky U2 fans LOL..

In Philly there was no 'policy' in place until about 9am the day of - I went the night before and half the security team there was barely aware of the U2 show the next night - or so they said..

Has anyone else had any luck contacting admin of a venue before the day or day before the event to get them to commit to anything? Im curious, cause although in practice it usually ends up ok in the end, at every show I've been to there's like this scramble at about 9am and then about 2-3pm where security is just getting clued in to whats going on..

Shrug

You're probably right, and I don't like to come off like a bioche, but her tone set me off............I was all geared up to be professional ( something I've made a 25 year career of) and she got all "I'm miss big shit cuz I answer the phone and tell people where to go".............I can't play that game nicely

Anyway, I thought I could help. I guess I learned my first lesson as a "first timer"
:grumpy:

That was pretty uncalled for. I know people get defensive when people tell them "how to do their job" but I doubt that is what you were doing

As for policies... Like I mentioned earlier, we NEVER really follow the procedures (ie, no lining up early) but having something in place (that we can utterly disregard anyway) at least indicates to us that they know what to expect...

I guess I have been spoiled cause

Denver was run pretty well. The venue even let us use the bathrooms INSIDE the venue.

Chicago -

Dublin - SUCKED the big one

Toronto - I did 3 and 4, so by then the policy was pretty well in place and those barriers rocked! Also liked that the line split off early.

Besides, I think there is the anxiousness of this being the hometown show. I am going to Pittsburgh and I know NOTHING. I dont even have a hotel room for Friday and no one has mentioned if they're camping, yet I am not 1/1000th as stressed out about that as I am about this show... It's just that us Detroiters want to represent :D

Question?

Gabrielvox...................

Do you have a brother that's single that's as nice as you are??? No not for me (I love my redneck hubby) I wanna hook my daughter up....I need an extra nice guy around the house....do you need a mom? Can I adopt you? I'm a super grandma......

(he's thinking....."this woman is totally off her rocker, I need to steer as clear of her as possible...difenately did too much acid in the 70's)

So....I got an e-mail back from Chris in Guest Relations....

OK.....here is the rundown in regards to the U2 concert. Lines will not be allowed to form until 2pm the day of the show. That is when our parking lot will open up. No one will be allowed to form a line anywhere on the
property until that point in time. We have a concert the night before (Def
Leppard) and we need to close out that shw completely before we can start
working on the next event.

Once the lines start it will become just that....a line. There will be no numbering systems, potty breaks, port-a-potties, food breaks, etc without
raising the risk of losing your spot in line. As for people staying over
night from the 24th to the 25th, that will not be allowed either. Everyone
will be required to leave the property until 2pm the next day when our
parking lot opens up again for the 2nd show.

I am composing a response that will politely remind him that an ANY OTHER VENUE IN THE WORLD, he could expect 200-300 people in line by 2pm.

:|

we are so fucked

Idea

Who says we have to line up on there property.....didn't someone say there is nothing out there.........can we line up across the street, down the road......

Oh hell.........this is my first time..........25 years of waiting....I think I'll just make the best of it...(no potty breaks:eek:

leaving for wally's to by some Depends............what the heck
