I'm looking at hotels in NYC and i'm pretty much deciding ones in both Upper East and West Side around 90-105 streets. on either side. I was wondering what's the difference between east and west side and if there is a particular area i should avoid.

either side is ok. taking a cab is always the easiest form of transportation i feel. hotels in the city can be pricy and if you find anything that's under $100...you may be sleeping in a room the size of a closet. what price range were you looking to spend on a hotel?

I was planning on staying a hostel. I didn't realize those places were up aways from midtown. There's a hostel a block away from MSG. Is the area in the immediate vicinity from MSG a bad place to stay?
