Ok folks, here we go. I like the whole setlist game. So here is the scenario and this WILL take thought (but thinking is usually good). Hypothetically, U2 is doing ONE LAST SHOW (I know, the horror !!), you are in the front row. HTDAAB was never made and ATYCLB is the last studio album produced by U2. The band asks you, "give us your favorite 25 U2 songs and we will play them." You choose the order ! Your top 25 in any order you want them. You can choose obscure songs or major U2 hits (remember, do not include HTDAAB because we don't know too much about it).

Try not to mock or ridicule your friends here as this top 25 is quite subjective.

Here is my shot at it.

1. Acrobat
2. Discoteche
3. The Fly
4. HMTMKMKM
5. Gloria
6. Hawkmoon 269
7. Staring at the Sun
8. North and South of the River
9. Kite
10. Heartland
11. Sort of Homecoming
12. New Year's Day
13. Bad
14. All I Want is You
15. Heartbreak Hotel
16. Numb
17. Pride

Encore One:
18. Where the Streets Have No Name
19. Drowning Man
20. Elvis Presley and America
21. Walk On

Encore Two:
22. One Tree Hill
23. Dancing Barefoot
24. Running to Stand Still
25. One

I created the darn setlist and left off God II !!
I will replace Heartland w/ God II. I told you this was tough.

I've thought about this quite a bit, but never had it in me to make the full setlist. Here goes my first attempt ...

1. Where The Streets Have No Name
2. One Tree Hill
3. Bad
4. All I Want Is You
5. Please
6. Tomorrow
7. In God's Country
8. Exit
9. Bullet The Blue Sky
10. Running To Stand Still
11. A Sort Of Homecoming
12. October --> New Year's Day
13. Gloria
14. I Will Follow
15. 11 O'clock Tick Tock
16. God Part II

17. Hawkmoon 269
18. Desire
19. All Along The Watchtower
20. Until The End Of The World
21. Gone

22. Surrender
23. One
24. With Or Without You
25. 40

That was too hard. There's so much missing.

I know, it's extremely tough, hurts the brain. I would be real happy going to a show with your setlist here. It's really up tempo all the way through.

Thanks! Can you tell I'm not so keen on the acoustic set and I love the uptempo parts of eighties sets? I'm not quite sure I really stuck to your original specifications seeing I did some of it more out of interest to enhance the setlist - namely, the Desire/AATW Lovetown combination that I adore and include in almost all of my setlists.

A setlist for U2's final show would have to be about fifty songs to include even half of everything that should be played, That's part of the reason why I hope U2 never retire - a last show would be too difficult. If they slowly ease themselves out of touring or just play a select number of shows, it would probably be a lot easier, and make all of us happy!

How can you not end with Sunday Bloody Sunday?

So much of U2 all comes back to some of the ideas in that song. Even listening to the new album you can hear it. Sure, they sing about all sorts of things, but in the end, if there was one underlying theme for the band, it's in trying to move us all forwards. "NO MORE!" "Wipe your bloodshot eyes!" seems to me to be the way to go out, as the song is just as appropriate to today's world as it was when written in the early 1980s.
