Create a 20 song setlist that U2 could do. A show the does not require backing tracks. Just the four of them and nothing else added. A show they could do in Central Park. Could be tricky.

Desire, Out Of Control, Twilight, An Cat Dubh, Into The Heart, Surrender, Two Hearts Beat As One, Seconds, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Electric Co., I Fall Down, October, New Year's Day, I Threw A Brick..., A Day Without Me, Gloria

Encore(s): Party Girl, 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, I Will Follow, 40

:hmm: Some of that looks familiar................

But they use backing on Crumbs, All I Want Is You, Pride (although they dont NEED to I guess), Vertigo, The Fly and Dirty Day. Those dont meet your own criteria. IF they ever played Red Hill I guarantee you they would there as well.

They dont need to use the backing on those songs and it would be okay. Pride has backing????

Yes, Terry plays bass pedals on it. I still disagree though, Dirty Day had heavy backing studio and when it was done live. It needs it to make it sound right live. They would never even attempt without it IMO.

Vertigo, UTEOTW , Miss Sarajevo, Streets, WOWY all use backing tracks. Some others you listed do as well (although most are minor backing). They could probably get away with not using it for Vertigo and UTEOTW also. But the rest they rely on the backing fairly significantly.

I kept thinking that Miss Sarajevo had no backtracking...

Streets has it, but it has faded through time, if you didn't have the organ, would that count as backtracking?

Vertigo has it when Bono starts to sing the final line "Hello, hello..." the section before kneel...

Until The End Of The World has a backtracked beginning... but the rest of the song it doesn't

With Or Without You I was lead to believe was all done by Edge's guitar, but there is some backtracking...

Realisitically they could play them without backtracking...

i just tried, but it was too tough since i think there is a lot of backing in their music, especially everything from AB on

what backing is there in miss sarajevo? i thought edges piano took care of most of it?

As a rule everything pre-uf is fine without backing tracks. i thought only BAD uses backing tracks from that era?

after that its limited though.

Actually I think this is the closest anyone has come using several songs beyond WAR.

However, Hawkmoon when it was done live had HEAVY backing. As mentioned before Streets uses the organ backing at the intro and during the chorus and always has, without it, I think it would sound fairly flat. AIWIY always has used backing also. They could probably get away without though, but they have always used it when it was played full band. WOWY has a kick drum track and sequencing during the main chorus and build up and always has as well.

Otherwise I think you have some good selections that would make the criteria.

Cool idea...not many people get the concept of NO BACKING though! lol :)

1. Gloria
2. I Will Follow
3. Desire
4. All Along the Watchtower
5. An Cat Dubh
6. Into the Heart
7. Still Havent Found
8. Out of Control
9. 11:00 Tick Tock
10. Angel of Harlem (acoustic - full band)
11. Stay (acoustic - full band)
12. One (acoustic - full band)
13. Sunday Bloody Sunday
14. Bullet the Blue Sky
15. Running to Stand Still
16. New Year's Day
17. Pride

18. People Get Ready
19. Party Girl
20. 40

Its hard to fit in anything post 1990 unless you can assume they will alter the versions to exclude the backing track!
