The first time I listed to HTDAAB the whole way through, a few seconds into "All Because Of You", I was thinking they HAVE to close with "City Of Blinding Lights". It was still running through my head and I could just picture it: all the stage lights up, the band and the crowd illuminated and Bono singing to us, at the top of his lungs-- "OH, YOU LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL TONIGHT!"

It'd be perfect; an absolutely perfect way to end the show.

You know none of us would want to leave-- begging, craving for more. And I think it's a possibility. It's always good to end with a rousing song, like "Walk On" for Elevation. It keeps us wanting more.

For this set, imagine 1-7 flowing together perfectly as follows ...

COBL's outro slows, slows ... slows ... slows ... then the background washes red, the synth blasts out, and Edge flows into the intro. At the end, Edge again slows and gradually morphs into All I Want Is You, which is played straight into Bad (a la 20 October 1989, Sydney). These two songs could be played either way and I originally had Bad/AIWIY, but thematically, AIWIY/Bad is one to turn every thinking member of their audience on their heads. Then at the end of Bad, the song morphs into One Tree Hill, and after that, as Bono is singing "oh great ocean, oh great sea," Adam begins his sinister bass and begins a sinister jam with Edge that slowly rumbles into the all-out rock of Exit. When Exit comes to its conclusion, after the obligatory snippet of Van Morrison's Gloria, Edge plays on, beginning the mournful live intro to Hawkmoon.

While that is incredible, the segues wouldn't work. Key changes all over the place...you can't just jump from D to A without anyone noticing, as it would be with Streets/AIWIY.

That being said, I think the openers will be:

I can pretty much guarantee you they won't play anything before 1983 unless it's as a rarity. And even still, the only '83 songs they'd play would be New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday, and certainly NOT both per show. They won't play Electric Co., they won't play Gloria, they won't play Seconds, and they almost certainly won't play Out of Control or 11 O'Clock Tick Tock. And who the hell is saying God Part II and Exit and Hawkmoon 269?? Come on now, that doesn't even fit with HTDAAB. Be realistic.

Let me remind you that there's a difference beetween show starter and show opener

opener is the first song. ex = mofo
starter is the one that has all the power = even better...

at least, that's how I've seen it and lived it (with Popmart)

So... What I've managed to get out of my head is...

1 - Miracle Drug (show opener)... the finish segues into "Hello, X city...1,2,3,14"
2 - Vertigo (show starter)


Last song - City Of Blinding Lights

Well, keep in mind I know nothing about music, I just make sets by feel and what I think would sound good together both sonically and thematically, so that might explain things if the next question sounds really stupid. The band have quite successfully played AIWIY --> Streets on both the Lovetown and Elevation Tours, so even with the key change, why couldn't they play the reverse just as successfully?

I Will Follow has appeared on every tour and will again, probably less than normal though. So with or without returns and one is dropped. Not so sure about that. and crumbs from your table closing. I'm not sure if they will even play it. i think it's between yahweh and crumbs from your table for the last live spot of the new songs. a man and a woman and one step closer just don't seem like they are live songs. and what about electrical storm, edge said it will make the cut for the live shows.

i agree with the omission of pride. playing it to close the main set has been done into the ground. the new fans they will gain with this album won't care so much about pride and the old folk, the common fan, is pissed that not all the old hits are played, so who cares about them anyway. they'll get enough hits at the washed up stones shows.

I have a really hard time coming up with a setlist. There are just so many songs I would like to hear them play. I guess I would just ask that some of the songs that they always play (New Year's Day, Bullet the Blue Sky, Elevation, etc.) move aside and leave room for some of the older, forgetten tunes. I'd like to see them bring back some of their old songs like Silver and Gold, Two Hearts, maybe even 40 and Hawkmoon. I'd also like to see them play some of their best b-sides like Sweetest Thing, Summer Rain, Three Sunrises, etc.
