In my humble opinion, YES! It was a big surprise and sounded really good.
And Martha, I thought of you when I heard them playing "Gloria" at the Continental Arena on Wednesday. I darn near lost my mind with joy during that song!!!

i thought it was very good. the only bad part- totally took the energy from the crowd- very few people had any idea what they were playing. very strange and cool to see Bono take the lead and start the song on guitar- he actually did ok.

I'd have gone absolutely nuts!!!! Bowie & U2 are equally godlike to me. I've followed them both for years.
I was lucky enough to meet Bono at a Bowie gig in the interval once - genuinely could have died happy after that. He was so nice and we had a good old chat during the interval, then I went back in and saw my other hero play the classics.
I wonder if they'll do it again - going to Boston on Thurs & Sat - that would totally make the trip!!! Or maybe something by the mighty Aerosmith in their hometown? We'll see...
