I can't understand why this tune was dropped during popmart, i would have killed to hear it live. This song, and the whole POP idea, concept, album was so ahead of its time. I've been a huge fan of the band since the JT, looking back and thinking of music now, POP is definatly an album that would have done better in this day IMO.

When you think of bands like Franz Ferdinand & The Killers to name two, they use some electronica in there music, and now its accepted and liked...

Dance culture is always going to be around, i guess rock bands using electronica will only be more accepted as genres like UK/German Trance - House grow bigger..

Anyway, do you feel loved is a brilliant tune - I doubt they would dig it up, but its a nice dream...

Cheers

Hey I also wanted to add that a 2005 cover of Helter Skelter would be cool :) Very vertigo ish? :D

When you get to the bottom you go back to the top...lol

U2 certainly were not the first rock band to incorporate dance elements in their work - there were bands like the Charlatans and the Stone Roses doing it well before them.

U2 probably helped to bring it to a wider audience outside the UK, Germany and Ireland. Mofo I think is strongly influenced by the Stone Roses, particularly the track "Begging You".

Yeah i wasn't suggesting they were the first, but it was their first attempt in a time where electronica was not so widely used amongst bands that were high up in the charts...

Agreed regarding Mofo.. :D

I was thinking about this the other day (had it going on my Ipod). I went to the Vegas show and was lucky enough to hear this song live. Out of all the Pop songs played that night this was the best live version (of course later on in the tour all of Pop was A+ live). The visuals on the screen were cool too (flowers blooming). The thing about "Do You Feel Loved", it doesn't have that epic U2 ending. It is a pretty steady pace song by U2 standards and to most fans (at the show) I think it dragged a bit. But damn, it still makes me mad that this song didn't take off like it should of. It had such a great riff and bass n drums to it. Maybe if they played it later in the show during the encore or mixed in a few nights. What makes me really sad is that you know this song will never be played live again.

Has anyone ever heard the live versions besides the Las Vegas version? How do they sound?

I heard it live during Pop Mart in Phoenix. I don't remember it being anything special, pretty much stuck to the album version. It wasn't particuarly bad (at least compared to the sloppy Staring at the Sun), but wasn't amazing either. I'm sure the band just feels it's "there" - nothing special live.

Regarding Do You Feel Loved, Edge said at the time it was killing the momentum of the show and just didnt fit. They didnt think it was going anywhere live either. So it was dropped, permenantly. Phoenix was the last performance of the song live.

I attended the first 2 Popmart shows. Do You Feel Loved, as good as it sounds on album, was absolutely terrible. No crowd reaction whatsoever, and the band was simply not able to replicate the kick-ass instrumental part before the 3rd verse.

It was dropped early, and rightfully so. It's safe to say that song will never see the light of day again.

It probably did kill Bono's voice, and although it's a rocker, it's a rocker without much energy. At least I can't see it having much energy live.
