I dont even want U2 to tour if it is true.
My work is nearby my home, and I can get there whenever I am needed if my son is sick.
You must have the time to go home every day if a loved one is sick, flu or worse.....
I want a daddy to be home, thats all that matters.
And I do not need to hear something from the edge as well. I dont tell every body my son is sick as well. Not even our queen does that for that matter. And she is a very public figure to.

I'd rather they didnt tour until Sian is fully recovered. She needs her Dad. No tour is so important that you put it in front of your sick childs health.

Leukemia is a treatable (note I didn't say "curable") disease. I'm not sure the rate of recovery, but there's been great strides made.

acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common for the age group, if discovered early and and managed appropriately has an overall event free survival rate greater than 75% (which to most means "cure")...
still a lot of variables...
i hope it is simply a vicious rumor... if i were in that situation, i would never work again until my child were in remission and out of therapy....

What I am hearing is that The Edge's child was just diagnosed with Leukemia. If this is true, people should really stop worrying about when and if they can see the tour. Have some compassion. However, I know some of the reactions are preliminary and people may not have heard why the tour was being postponed. I am sure that when they tour there will be enough shows played that you can have a good chance of seeing them somewhere if you really want to.

While I would be greatly disappointed if they don't get to tour this year, as a mother, if in fact The Edge's child is ill, I wouldn't want him to risk being on the road in the event of something terrible happening (bad reaction to treatment or at worst--a turn for the worse). I know that there's no way I could ever choose work over my children when they need me most.
I would rather wait until all is well (if the rumors are true) and Edge and his family are in a secure enough place to handle his touring with the band.

Reports in the music press and U.K. papers saying U2 will be postponing its world tour due to a "family illness" look to be wide of the mark, but organising this massive trek doesn't seem to have been without its problems.
The story appears to have originated in Rolling Stone and was quickly picked up by the New Musical Express, a handful of the U.K.'s serious daily broadsheets and a European music industry online magazine.
"The World Wide Web is the quickest way to inform the world, but it's also the quickest way to misinform the world," U2 agent John Giddings told Pollstar.
When specifically asked if the tour would or would not be postponed, he replied, "You can't postpone a tour that you haven't announced."
The early stories claimed "a source close to the band" had said the act's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb Tour was due to start in Miami, Fla., March 1, but wouldn't go ahead as originally planned. Follow-up stories said it would be postponed altogether.
Although Giddings, who is head of Clear Channel's London-based Solo Agency, wouldn't discuss the "family illness" or the effect it may have on the tour, the postponement stories look to be ill-informed.
If the tour is to start in Florida March 1, then the delay in announcing the dates may be the result of a logistics glitch with the American leg that would follow. That's hardly likely to be reason to tear up the whole route book for what's rumoured to be 114 shows.
In the worst of all worlds, Clear Channel would more likely try to lift the front end off and somehow bolt it on the back.
Three European promoters have confirmed to Pollstar that they have unannounced U2 dates and haven't been told they may need to move them. All three promoters spoke on condition of anonymity and refused to reveal the dates or the names of the venues.
Arthur Fogel, head of Clear Channel's TNA International and U2's world tour producer, was equally tight-lipped and would only say, "I cannot confirm any details relating to the tour until we are ready to announce."
Neither would he confirm or deny that the act will play at the February 13 Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles or its March 14 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York.
Whatever the reason for the delay in announcing the dates -- which were expected to be made public at the beginning of the month ? it may put Internet ticket scalpers on the wrong foot as thousands of fans will have already bought tickets online for show dates that haven't been made official. Stories about postponements may prompt many of those fans to enquire about refunds or at least produce a flood of calls asking exactly what's happening.
In October, U2 reportedly sent a letter to stop one unnamed Internet shop from advertising tickets for stadium shows at Dublin's Croke Park and London's Twickenham Park. The RIAA just certified HTDAAB at 3 Million units sold. These are Achtung Baby-type numbers.
If this holds up, they may be reevaluating their whole tour and where they go and when.

let's hope whoever's sick enough that they may have to pp the tour gets well. we're not talking about an hour's commute every day for these people, they'll be all over the world and not able to just pop in to check in on someone and visit them. if they don't tour on time, i'm sure we'll see them at some point, never fear! how could anyone be at their best when they know a loved one's badly ill 'way back home?

I suspect that if they did postpone the first leg they might still play Europe. They'd be fairly close to home that way.
I think it's a bit irresponsible to be discussing treatment options and survival rates and strides in science without knowing A) whether somebody is actually ill and B) what the precise diagnosis is.
For the record, I work in a research lab in which half the staff does research in the field of paediatric leukemias (ALL and AML), and we have a new, promising drug going into Phase 1 testing in May. Strides are being made, but this is not like treating a common cold either.

if that was directed at me... get bent... i saw a post that had assumption/statements of fact regarding medical issues that i, as an MD board certified pediatrician, happen to know were incorrect... but as the term "leukemia" was carried by several newspapers and web outelts irishabroad, i think it is worth addressing... not that having it stated in those sources would lend any real veracity to the statement, i qualified my statement that i hoped it was all rumor.... additionally, i would seriously doubt that the band would ever make an official statement regarding something so personal... so, you may never get any real confirmation... if one knows the symptoms or "laymans term" for a diagnosis and the age group statistically speaking, most physicians can tell you what the most common specific medical condition is without knowing any other information... common things happen commonly... in summary, it is not "irresponsible," it is what physicians do every day... good luck with your company's research, entering phase I trials is years from market and most "promising" drugs stumble along the way...irishabroad

"The lovely little..." etc. Chills my blood. The vultures would try anything to get a pic of her, if the rumor was true. The Evans family is just fodder for their ratings and anybody;s heartbreak is just another day, another dollar. (or euro.)
