And by 'popularity contest', I mean member awards, but we all know that it boils down to the same thing, right?
See, we're all bored here. It'll be months before we can really get into the hype before a new album comes out, and up until that time.... there's only so much snark and randomness we can come up with to keep us entertained.
Some other sites I've been on in the past have had annual member awards, and it might be fun to have one here.
If this idea doesn't immediately get shot down, the first step would be to come up with categories, I already have a few in mind, but am open to suggestions:
Best moderator
Funniest member
Favourite member
Sexiest female member
Sexiest male member
Best contributor to U2 news
Best contributor to EYKIW
Best thread derailer
Best contributor to *insert various Lemonade Stand subforums here*
Best contributor to Lemonade Stand in general
Member with the best username
Member with the best avatar
Member with the best signature
Best contributor to Free Your Mind
Member most likely to piss you off in Free Your Mind
Best PLEBA fanfic author

There are probably more obvious categories pertaining to sections of the forum I don't visit as often, so suggest away.
The second step would be to open up nominations. Members can nominate multiple members for as many categories as they'd like (you only have to nominate for the categories you want to), and nominations will be done through email (since not all members have PM access).
After the nomination period ends, the nominees will be announced, and the voting period will begin. Voting will also be done through email, rather than polls, that way the results will be a surprise. When the voting period ends, all the results will be compiled into one big happy post. And there will be champagne and much rejoicing.
There will be no actual prizes or statuettes awarded to the winners, although they will have the opportunity to lord it over the heads of the losers.
Also, I should note that for the sake of the mods, campaigning will be restricted to avs, sigs, and the existing thread pertaining to the awards. And no slandering of your competition. We're not politicians.
So, good idea? bad idea? Also, suggestions for categories? Also, if we actually do this, I'm gonna need someone to help me run it, probably.
