Just a goddam Search would be nice for non-premiums.

That´s what I thought.

Without a search function, I have no chnace to find i.e. my contributions to FYM back in 2002. Which is a shame, because I had many interesting discussions.

The ridiculous thing is, Elvis still doesn´t want the non-premiums tzo use that goddamn search function. Even if you´ve been a premium once - like me.

I can´t figure out why.

Does Elvis really think, from a marketing view, that people who do not care shit for PMs or the other premium stuff would pay 10 bucks just to use the search function? They don´t. They just find it as stupid as copy-protected CDs.

Information wants to be free. We live in the digital age. If you can´t give me a search function, where does practicability go? Elvis should be the one to know it. But he decides to ignore it. This just pretty much reminds me of a greedy major label CEO.

This is just my opinion, but...

You can't click a mouse without running into fabulous websites with plenty of news about plenty of other stuff besides U2. The number of excellent music news sites and music blogs alone is staggering. I'm sure the same would be true for movies, politics, travel, and the other types of information you're considering adding to interference.

It's nice to have interference focus on U2 alone. That's what interference is famous for, and that's why we're all here. It's great that fans can connect about various other topics in the forums, but that doesn't mean the whole site needs to open itself up to providing information on everything U2 fans could possibly be interested in.

If you absolutely want to create a site like that, I'd make it a sister site to, and not a part of, interference.com.

Heartland Girl, I haven´t seen you around for AGES

How have you been? Your husband is fine too?

 :)

Hi Hiphop. I'm great! I'm not married anymore, but I'm enjoying life a lot more as a result. :)

I hope you're doing well too! I took a little break from here, but I'm glad to be back and see everybody. :dancing:

i think the debate about whether or not elvis should enable the search feature for all members is kind of silly, seeing as he specifically said he didn't want ideas for the forum.

i'm not saying it's a bad suggestion, just that maybe this isn't the right thread for it.

like the media page, although maybe audio couldn't be on there anymore. new stuff could even be added that there never was before, like a timeline and such. :)

Excuse me if I have the nerve ...

but you´re starting to sound like the lady at the municipality -

no, Sir, you will have to go to desk 23 in the 5th floor to make this entry - we´re not responsible for it here :D

You really think I should open a whole other thread in dont expect, suggest? Do we have to make it that complicated? It would cost less energy for everyone involved to just install that function. I´m not the only one asking for it, as you can see.

I did complain about it in the other forum before but all I the reply I got was "I thought I had made it clear that I did not intend to blah-blah".

Yes, I´m doing ok. Lots of work though.. but it seems 2006 is a good year, stressy but good. And you won´t believe it.. I met a person, and she´s the very quiet kind, and that´s good.

I´m sorry if it didn´t work out between the two of you, but anyway you seem to be enjoying your life a lot :) and I bet a lot more ;) what does that mean.. ah I think I know.. :sexywink:

This has ALL already been discussed, debated, and explained.

Search will remain a Premium feature. It is the most processor/memory intensive feature on the site, and was incredibly abused prior to it becoming a Premium feature... to the point where it would bring the server to a crawl, and thus forced me to buy a new server to handle the resource demand.

Premium Members help cover the costs of running this forum, funding server upgrades, etc. Premium Membership costs $1 per month.... which is NOT a lot to ask to help keep this place running.

And just for the record, there are many people that do have Premium Memberships so that they can use Search.... a lot of people that don't even post, or use PMs.... just lurkers.

^ Yep, that's me. I have my $12 per year subscription through PayPal so I can search. I haven't sent or received a PM in months, but I enjoy the search function and viewing profiles.

... and do either of you resent having to pay a dollar a month for the benefits of Premium Membership?

No. I don't even remember until December when the subscription renews automatically. It's an issue for about 10 seconds.... *check bank account* "$12 debit, WTF?.....oh, yeah, Interference.com. Whatev."

No.
$1 a month is nothing really.

I'm pretty certain some people pay more than that ($1) on a daily basis for their cup of coffee (from a certain company).

I don't mind paying $12 per year for premium membership. I only use PM occasionally, but love search and checking out user profiles. So it's worth it to me.

If you don't want to pay for it, you don't really want it.

I acctually pay $2 a month because I don't know how to switch to the yearly thing:whistle:

And I only did it to be able to search, and because I wanted to help out the site a little....

To switch to yearly, cancel your monthly subscription (in paypal), then come back to the site and start a yearly subscription.

Google doesnt always show everything.

Do you know how it determines what to show? The results were not chronological and didn't seem to have any pattern. Not that I really care, I'm just interested since I know nothing about the technology of search engines and databases in general.

Google sorts based on how "relevant" something is... according to them. lol.

PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.
