out.php

I noticed that Interference has some sort of "feature" that causes all external links to be run through a script "out.php" rather than directly linking to sites. I am curious as to what function this serves, and if there is a way to disable this for when I view threads, as it sometimes makes it a bit more difficult when I right click a link and use Firefox's "copy link location" feature. Thanks in advance.

This is a method of preventing the misuse of the forum by spammers/advertisers trying to use the site for direct text links to increase placement in search engines.

Essentially, we keep the functionality of a URL working w/o directly linking to the site.

This feature can't be disabled... as it would defeat the purpose.

Ah okay. That makes sense. Now that I think about it, I believe I've seen similar features in some blogging software. Thanks for the prompt and concise answer.
