Need help with sig

This is a really stupid question but i can't figure out how to set a signature. It's been bugging me for a while now and i've read about it but it says something about if the user has enabled their settings in a certain way, and i don't know how to change that now
really am confused with it and would appriciate the help, as i said i know it's a dumb question but i just don't get it
