Ignorance (avatars)

How does uploading avatars from my computer actually work? I mean does it store the image here in a folder or what?

*Just curious*.
*Actually has burning desire to know how this works*.
*Has issues with the internet, security and general not understanding of how the internet works*.
*Hopes that if someone answers this they keep it simple*.
*Hopes this was the right place to post this*

If you right-click on an avatar and select "Properties", you'll see that it is given an Interference URL, meaning it is stored by the site. Once you change your avatar though, I'm pretty sure that your old avatar is just automatically removed and not stored anywhere else. I'm not 100% positive, but that's what my guess would be.

I know how to shrink pictures to the correct size but how do I shirnk the file size??

I have photoshop.

For those that still want to know, I usually do 'save for web' in photoshop and you can adjust the file size there.
