Every time I've come to the forum today Firefox tells me a script is running from google-analytics.com - what is this? Is it just a hit counter or is it something I should be worrying about? I've blocked it for now.

A simple google search on 'Google Analytics' would land you at http://www.google.com/analytics/

You'll find more than enough info there

did you add something called adbite too? it seems to make the pages take a little longer to load, not a lot, just enough to be a little annoying.

No, I also have that adbite thing. And google-analytics.

adbite has been there for months. its another service which I use to monitor traffic trends.. .. although I probably wont be using it for much longer.

nope, I've noticed that too, for a while now (a lot longer than when Elvis started the Google thing)
