well back along I had a few alts cuz I wanted to be somewhat anonymous. This nick has been registered for a VERY long time and sometimes it's hard to deal with your own reputation...know what I mean? So I would just create an alt that would post here and there or just lurk

Okay I'll try. He is saying that he thinks a spammer is using a computer program ("bot") to automatically register a bunch of fake accounts. I think usually they just want to get a bunch of accounts on sites so they can put an address to their website in their profile, and drive traffic to their site.

He is suggesting that people trying to register have to go through one of screens where you type the word you see in the box, like the ones on Ticketmaster where you end up doing it 500 times when you're looking for tickets. The "bot" program wouldn't be able to do that step and wouldn't be able to register.

How's that?

Thank you.

The Ticketmaster thing I could follow; it was the bot thing that was confusing me.

The bots were acutally not trying to register to the/a forum, but were attempting to use one of my custom registration scripts as a 'remailer'... something that they could send via web in order to spam people via email. The script of course wasn't intended for an emailing, so all that resulted of the bots trying to use the script.. was a few bogus registrations - all of which have been removed.
