African Well Fund Trip to Uganda Chronicled in Video

Ed. Note -- Our friend Julie from the AWF has sent us a head's up about a documentary about a trip the AWF took to Uganda this past September to check on the process of the Bono's Birthday Wells. Please check out this special preview, and continue to lend a hand to this wonderful organization.

Four years ago, a group of U2 fans got together with the intention of raising enough money to build a well in Africa. They reached out to the online U2 fan community and asked for contributions to a fund to build a well in honor of Bono’s birthday. The fans responded and more than $10,000 was raised, enough to build a number of wells in the Ntungamo district of Uganda.

This past September, two African Well Fund board members traveled to Uganda to visit the communities where these first “Bono Birthday Wells” were built. Their trip was privately funded and they traveled with a filmmaker who chronicled their trip for a future documentary.

We have a special preview of this film available on youtube.

We are excited to allow all of you who have supported the Well Fund and the Birthday fundraisers to have a first hand glimpse of the difference your support has made in these communities.

Since that first fundraiser, the African Well Fund has expanded and grown. Successive Bono Birthday fundraisers have raised over $70,000. Our total raised since inception is well over $200,000 and we have funded water projects in Angola, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe as well as Uganda. In the coming months we will be implementing projects in Rwanda and Sierra Leone. None of this would be possible without the steadfast support of the U2 fan
community and for this we are humbly grateful.
