Las Vegas 2, We Love You

That U2 band we're so fond of seems to be enjoying its two-night residence at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas if last night's set list is anything to go by. Guest apperances by Mary J. Blige on "One" and longtime U2 maniac Brandon Flowers of the Killers who finally got his wish to perform his favorite song, "In A Little While" with the boys. Many thanks of course to Gorman and his superpowers, ramblin rose, and chrisedge, Axver for his many insights and all the rest for just being themselves.

Here's what they played:

1. City Of Blinding Lights
2. Vertigo / Rock N Roll ****** (Snippet)
3. Elevation
4. Mysterious Ways
5. Until the End of the World
6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
7. Beautiful Day / All The Things That I've Done (Snippet of Killers song)
8. Miracle Drug
9. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own / Torna A Sorrento (Snippet)
10. Love & Peace Or Else
11. Sunday Bloody Sunday / Father Abraham
12. Bullet The Blue Sky / Hands That Built America (Snippet) / When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Snippet)
13. Miss Sarajevo
14. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
15. Where The Streets Have No Name / Wow Snippet
16. One (Christmas Tree Mix) featuring Mary J. Blige

ENCORES:
17. Zoo Station
18. The Fly
19. With Or Without You

Happy birthday to Dennis Sheehan (Tour Manager)

20. All Because Of You
21. In A Little While (w/Brandon Flowers of The Killers)
22. BAD / People Got The Power

U2.com has the following photos from the show:

Absolutely unbelievable show. Will definately go down as one of the best I've attended this tour. Thank you U2.

I would love to know what happened at the end with Larry. I can only imagine he was either exhausted and in pain or annoyed at the way the show ended because of many in audience not participating in the "People Got the Power" snippet and leaving in droves during Bad (this after droves of people left before the last encore)

I was shocked to see him get up from his seat and literally go down the stairs the split second the song ended.

Thank you again U2 for 2 nights I'll never forget.

 Leaving in droves during Bad???? Some people don't deserve to have a ticket when other people across the country would have given their right arm to be there. :tsk:

Sounded like a great show!

HOLY MOTHER OF FLY! What an amazing setlist. You really have to hand it to Larry though, geeze he must be in a lot of pain and bringing back the ZooTV encore must have really exhausted him.

That's a great set list. Zoo Station, The Fly, Mysterious Ways, Until The End Of The World AND In A Little While. Wow, now that's fucking awesome! Maybe the most diverse show so far. Awesome!

What's the Wow snippet at the end of Streets there? :eyebrow:

OMG almighty that sounds gorgeous!
What a list! Mysterious Ways and UTEOTW in the midst of it like that?! a zootv encore ending with WOWY?!
Yes indeed, people leaving in droves should never allowed to buy a ticket to a U2 show again...or better yet, be required for each they get to buy one for those of us who'd have drooled away and asked for more, goodness me.
I can't even get my head around leaving during those encores, or thinking about stirring from your seat during Bad.
But hey, its vegas. The slots and the sluts (sorry, couldn't resist) may have been calling to some in that audience.
No wonder they didn't include Boy songs, Vegas calls for AB and leaving the boy songs for a different place...
Couldn't afford the time away from family with young kids or the cash to go to see U2 in Vegas, but that would be trippy I'm guessing! Maybe sometime...
And I promise Larry I would sing People have the Power til long after they left the stage:yes:...I felt funny actually at Detroit 2 when I continued with it, after Bono sang/ledthechant of it til he positioned himself behind Larry back of stage, looked out a final time to the audience with this unforgettable sweet and triumphant at once smile on his face and sort of gestured goodnight. I wasn't sure at first if he was surprised people were still chanting it, if he was pleased at the feel of standing there presiding over that...I recall feeling a little embarassed that I was still doing it (many had stopped by then), but then the smile assured me it was good. It must be much nicer to leave the stage feeling the effect, feeling the singing still happening, so I'm sorry if the vibe of merely 'finishing up' for folks was what was bugging Larry:(
Better that than pain though I guess...
I guess that's why 40 is such a lovely closer when the audience does it properly (which it did at Chicago I in May, and which it didn't really at Detroit I....there wasn't that gorgeous continuation til at least when the lights went up if not til the parking lot dammit), but again Vegas calls for Bad dunnit?!

Lucky lucky for the vegas showgoers to get such a cool set!
cheers all!

edit: yeah, what *is* a "Wow" snippet?
All I can think of is the Kate Bush Song titled 'Wow' I think?!
And Christmas Tree Mix of One?! Is that just Mary Blige's version of it?! I liked her performance with the boys for the Hurricane relief thingie...she's got a great combo of smooth and bumpy in her voice, power and vulnerability I think.

okay, so now I'm all worried about larry...
are we going just on hypotheses now or has there been some news that he's dealing with more than his usual continuing bouts of tendonitis and such?:slant:

Brandon Flowers got his wish then.
He was hardly subtle about going about it, but oh well. I'm sure it was a great performance.

I second that!!! Thank you U2!

Last night was absolutely amazing! I thought Friday's show was great - but yesterday's rocked SO much (and was MUCH different, I might add!). I loved how the setlist varied from Friday's - I mean, I loved the inclusion of Wild Horses, Walk On and so forth, but was JAZZED to see the Fly and Zoo Station back - as well as Bad for the closer... I also enjoyed One with Mary J. and the dude from the Killers join in on In A Little While... It was much different than I'd seen previously - but very nice.

The crowd - from where I was standing in GA at least - was WAY into it -- Bono seemed to notice... Saying something about how "crazy" people in Vegas got and how they "weren't going to leave because they were having so much fun"...

What a way to end my Vertigo tour... :) Amazing shows. It's difficult to even describe how awesome they were, haha. I'm still deaf... Everything was perfect...

I didn't see people leaving in droves during Bad though -- people seemed to be thrilled they were playing it. I guess maybe I was way too into it, haha.

Although - I was surprised to see how quickly they left the stage -especially after how energetic and great the show was... It seemed off in comparison to how long they stayed on stage before coming out for the last encore.

I just remember that I happened to look up at the screens and I saw Larry just kind of get up and leave -- it was really weird. I sincerely doubt it was because no one was singing the song... I heard plenty of people participating and some people just don't know it (I didn't - I just followed Bono). Plus, that would be kind of childish to abruptly walk off of stage because people aren't singing. If that were the case, LA2 back in April would have seen Larry storm off, haha. (People weren't as energetic as Vegas was, IMO).

I think it's more likely that exhaustion caught up with him. Bono seemed to exert himself last night - and perhaps that's what happened with Larry.

That being said however, I would, too, like to know what was going on. Hope everything's alright.

Other than that - very pleased. My first GA experience, lots of new friends (thanks to the line) in a relatively small venue AND an absolute amazing concert. *Sigh* :)

If they could have tossed in just one R&H song, like any of the big 3 - "Desire", "Angel of Harlem" (this acoustic would have been great) or "All I Want Is You" instead of "With or Without You" and I think it would have been perfect.

Still, as it stands, it's a great mix of the new songs with the old.
This is definitely one of the best setlists for this tour! I'm wondering if the upcoming DVD made U2 realize how great having that "mini-ZOO TV" bit in there was! I know I missed it - along with the outstanding "Mysterious Ways" and "Until the End...". I hope this show becomes available for download soon!

I wish New York would have gotten an equally/more amazing setlist...

[You'd think that after 7 shows, at least 2 would have insanely amazing setlist changes...]

They did the same thing Friday night...my entire section was almost empty before the first encore was over. At this show, half my row left during One and the rest during the first encore.

It may have had something to do with the fact that the MGM was a horrible venue to maneuver through. Once you left the lobby, people were packed like sardines...the walkways were much, much too small for a crowd of that size. It literally took 20 minutes for my sister and I to get out of the arena after the Saturday show. I have never seen anything like it. So I can only guess they were trying to get out before the crowd. Or maybe they were just idiots who didn't deserve tickets, lol.

And I agree with ramblin rose..this was one of the best shows I have ever seen

nobody on the floor left early.... though the band seemed in a hurry to leave... getaway nights are always a bit clipped at the end.... plus I think Bono was worried about his voice, he mentioned how he lost his falsetto on Vegas #1.... so I think the boys were a just a bit tired last night...

Plus they started with so many up tempo rockers, by the end of the set they were pooped.... and the crowd kinda was also though I don;t know what larry's problem is....

It was an awesome some show even if they were a bit draggy.... wished I had seen Walk On from night #1

Fridays, crowd was SO RUDE!!!! I cant believe it!!! people kept leaving to get beer((and interrupting my enjoyment of the show)), and then a LOT of people left before the first encore and then more left after the first encore..((which gave me the oppurtunity to move even closer than I already was)) But none the less you can tell that a LOT of these people were not fans:mad:
aside from the mistakes on Fridays show I had a total BLAST these 2 Vegas nights!!!:D

Yeah, I got to move down a few rows for Fridays show too .

Saturday was kind of the opposite. People keep trying to sneak down to stand in the aisle all during the show . Which was okay until they started arguing with the ushers (that was distracting).

BAW's right about the venue. It took forever to get out after the show Saturday night.

I think part of the problem in Vegas is that some of the tickets go to "guests" of the casinos, ex. big business people, high rollers. But like I said, I got to move down for the encores on the first night, so that was good .

 Hi Kelly! Hi BAW!
Fri in the elipse was the most awesome experience for me, but I agree Sat night's show was simply AMAZING! I agree that people were so drunk and rude especially Fri night....people pushing, people smoking, people drunk or drugged out and ready to pass out......but I really noticed Sat. that people were leaving early. I wondered why.....did they have somewhere else to go in that city that never sleeps, or was it because of the horrible traffic?

All in all it was a most funtastic weekend--amazing, surreal, fun fun fun..........I will get in touch Kelly----sorry I didn't get your call, my cell phone was dropped and the battery is acting up so I wasn't very reachable.

Glad to hear so many of us had so much fun in Vegas!
