LET'S GO TO HONOLULU!

interesting....thats what I was thinking as well. Let's see how long it takes for this new possibility to be shaken with an unanticipated letter lol :crack:

This contest is getting CRAZYYYYY .... way more clues than I expected (I thought max. one each day).... However, I am totally into this!!

OK guys, you wanna be REALLY confused?? Channel4.com now has one, and it's the same lyric as on U2.com (See the bird with a (L)eaf in her mouth), but a different shaped image, so obviously different.

So they're repeating the lyrics and the letters. Whatever next??

Observation: all of the clues include the date of release (20/11/06) except for this new graphic on mp3.com, and hotpress.com (Ireland) which has 17/11/06. Does anyone know if it's being released earlier in Ireland? Perhaps a typo?

Actually, when the original hotpress banner first showed up it said 20/11/06, and only recently changed to 17/11/06, but is otherwise the same...

this was weird...

but this?...

channel42jv6.jpg

can't find the words...

so many letters already, some are suspicious, particularly the E in healing.... dammit!
but the E doesn't look legit, though. the banner's completely different than the rest. but if it is legit, it completely changes the answer. Aloha Stadium Honolulu Hawaii is out, and Let Us (or Let's? the apostrophe will be difficult to be made as a clue, tho) Go To Honolulu seems more appropriate. Plus, it does make a complete sentence instead of just naming a place ...

just when you thought your daily chores were wrecking your head already, then came this.. aaaarrghhhhh!!!!!

Don't freak out....

Think of it this way: U2.com put together the quiz by starting with the answer. Then they took each letter in the answer, and created a banner ad for each one (featuring a U2 lyric). They also probably created different shapes of each banner, so they could fit in different ad slots on the sites. Next, they just bought ad space on all these websites and sent out the banners. Some sites may have gotten more than one banner; hell, some may have gotten ALL of them!

So... I'm assuming that each separate LYRIC represents a single letter in the answer. Different banner shapes, or the same banner appearing on different sites - they all stand for only the one letter that corresponds with that LYRIC. After all, it's called "Hunt The LYRIC", not "Hunt the Ads" or even "Hunt the Letters"....

I completely agree. And further to that...this is really helping promote the new best of by taking a lyric from each song that will be on the new CD, so to me repeated lyrics still only means ONE letter as they won't have the same song on the best of several times.

I just found that one before I got here,

Check out the typo in the article right underneath

U218 Singles features 16 of the band's greatest hits, along with two new tracks produced by Rick Rubin. The first is a collaboration with Green Day on a cover of the classic punk track "The Saints Are Coming" by the Slits.

Anyone ever heard of The Slits??? :eyebrow: :D

Yep! The Slits originally recorded The Saints Are Coming. No typo!!

G - Australia – Triple M Radio

O - Holland – Telegraaf Newspaper - 0

-------------------------------------------------------------

Not that it matters, 'cause the answer stays the same.

Hahaha!

I figured the above out on my own.

Then I went inside the zoo using a dear friend's username and password.
Only to discover that it had already been figured out.

And not only that, but someone there noticed that if you rightclick on the banner on Channel 4 and select properties, you'll see:

http://www.u218.com/_banners/uk02.jpg

That way they were able to also get the following banners:

australia.jpg

http://www.u218.com/_banners/australia.jpg

norway.jpg

http://www.u218.com/_banners/norway.jpg

denmark.jpg

http://www.u218.com/_banners/denmark.jpg

spain.jpg

http://www.u218.com/_banners/spain.jpg

switzerland.jpg

http://www.u218.com/_banners/switzerland.jpg

They weren't able to guess the name for the Canada one right.
So that's the only one missing.
But you can bet on it the highlighted letter will be an N!

It is Great, but I don't remember whether the homepage called u218.com was mentioned among the websites which take place in the contest.... :shifty:

(I mean I 'm not sure if we can count the letters/ lyrics which were at u218.com...)

Of course they're real, someone has shown a bit of initiative and hacked them. Well done.

Ok, you are right, thanks for the plus info... (maybe some banners of u218.com are copied to the exact websites, like we could see eg.: "we can be One..." to the holland(Dutch) website"... ;) )

The only one I cant figure out is U2 homepage which states "Your first clue is pretty easy... it's in the banner below! " and that letter is an 'L'. This letter doesnt fit in HONOLULU. But if you guess the Canada Dose letter is an 'N' and move one of the Japan 'O's' you get this:

L - UK – Channel Four Music
E - USA – MP3
T - UK - NME Magazine
S - Ireland – Hot Press Magazine
G - Australia – Triple M Radio
O - Holland – Telegraaf Newspaper
T - Norway – MSN
O - Denmark – BT Newspaper
H - Spain – 20minutos – Free Daily Newspaper
O - Japan – Asahi Newspaper - Sports
U2 website 'L'???
N - Canada – Dose
O - Japan – Asahi Newspaper - Culture
L - Switzerland – 20minuten – Free Daily Newspaper
U - Austria – Osterreich – Daily Newspaper
L - Germany – Laut.de – Music Website
U - Sweden – TV4
