Bono To Receive Liberty Medal

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA U2's Bono will be in Philadelphia to be honored for his humanitarian work to save Africa.

Bono, the rock star humanitarian, will receive the city's prestigious Liberty Medal during a ceremony Thursday evening at the National Constitution Center.

"He's obviously a phenomenal messenger, but what I think that makes him special is what he doesn't just sort of pop in and leave. He follows through with a kind of real energy," said Joseph Torsella, CEO National Constitution Center.

"By the year 2010 you're talking about 20,000 aids orphans in Africa," said Reverend Herb Lusk, the Greater Xodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Rev. Lusk shares Bono's passion for fighting aids in Africa.

"Millions of people would probably be dead now if it wasn't for his intervention," Rev. Lusk said.

Former President George Bush and other humanitarians will stand beside Bono as he is honored at the star studded event.
