Bono surprises at Leonard Cohen premiere

Attendees at Sunday night's world-premiere screening of Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man got a big treat just before the documentary/concert film unspooled in the Isabel Bader Theatre. None other than U2 front man Bono put in an appearance to offer gracious words in support of the film, its director Lian Lunson and, of course, ole froggy voice himself, Leonard Cohen.

Bono, in Toronto for four sold-out U2 concerts, first met Lunson, an Aussie expat who came to Los Angeles to try her hand at acting almost 20 years ago, in 1988. He told the Bader crowd the first few weeks of their friendship seemed to involve one long argument about films and filmmakers, an argument that ended with him challenging her: "Well, if you know so much about film, go and make your own." Bono (aka Paul Hewson) and fellow U2 Edge (aka David Evans), in fact, are two of the more prominent talking heads in Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man, and at film's end, all four U2s join Cohen on-stage at New York's Slipper Club for a groovy rendition of the Cohen classic Tower of Song.
