U2 Man Applies for Improvements

The Edge - aka Dave Evans of U2 - is looking to make a few improvements to the house he paid more than ?10 million for in 2002.

He wants to block up the existing entrance of Fortlands on Killiney Hill Road and open a new entrance off the avenue leading to Villa Maria, providing a new driveway and gate opening. He also wants to reposition a portion of the south-west corner wall to give improved sight lines and to raise the south wall and part of the west boundary wall by 1.5 metres.

Evans bought Fortlands when his bid to extend his previous Dalkey home was rejected by An Bord Plean?la. Fortlands is set on three acres of gardens. It was sold to the Edge by New York-based multi-millionaire Sean Melly.

Ed. Note: The Planning and Development section of The Times contained this snippet about what appears to be Edge's plans for his family home.

Location: Fortlands, Killiney Hill Rd, Killiney, Co Dublin. Proposed development: Construct an open air swimming pool on raised paved platform, including hot tub together with changing room and plant room below platform and for the opening of a temporary entrance onto Killiney Hill Rd to enable works. Applicant: David Evans.
